    CBS Local - DFW ^ | May 6, 2020 at 1:05 pm
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has called for the “immediate release” of a Dallas salon owner who was arrested and sent to jail for opening her business in defiance of Gov. Greg Abbott’s stay-at-home orders. Shelley Luther, owner of Salon A La Mode, was sentenced to seven days in jail Tuesday after Dallas judge Eric Moye said she violated those orders as the coronavirus pandemic continues. Paxton said he believes the judge is abusing his authority and that her arrest seems like a “political stunt.” In a full statement, Paxton said: “I find it outrageous and out...

Spitzer said the convicted men spent “just days” in jail instead of the six months required by law for those registered as sex offenders. The men apparently had also been charged with cutting off their GPS monitors or tampering with their tracking devices. They were released on April 7 as a result of rulings by appointed Court Commissioner Joseph Dane... “It is not the court’s responsibility to control the jail population by releasing these dangerous criminals back into our communities,” the DA said. “The residents of Orange County deserve to have the peace of mind that registered sex offenders are...

CLEVELAND (WJW) — The Cuyahoga County Court is looking to release hundreds of inmates from the Cuyahoga County Jail Saturday morning due to coronavirus concerns. Judges concerned about the virus spreading through the jail. Cuyahoga County judges are holding a special Saturday morning session to try to settle cases with guilty pleas, release inmates or send them to prison, or release them on house arrest. Administrative Judge Brendan Sheehan told the I-TEAM earlier this week that inmates are already in poor health, and it wouldn’t take much for the coronavirus to spread wildly behind bars. Sheehan also said almost any...

Fans of the rapper have been begging for the help of President Donald Trump to bring the American musician home after authorities in Sweden extended his time behind bars. President...

In a news release, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials accused the Orange County Detention Center of improperly releasing Udiel Aguilar-Castellanos, who had served his time for a child sex offense but had a federal immigration detainer. Aguilar-Castellanos walked out of the detention center on June 27 after pleading guilty in court to the sexual battery of an 11-year-old girl. The judge ruled he had more than served his time, but...

[Full headline:] "If Sheriff Israel is the “amazing” leader he says he is, he will release videos of his deputies’ actions during Parkland shooting" It’s imperative that Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel release video recordings of what his deputies did, and didn’t do, outside Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School while Nikolas Cruz was on a killing spree inside. First, Israel himself has said that the public needs to know this information. He’s right, and he should accommodate the people on whose behalf he and his deputies work. The Democratic rebuttal memo to the Republican House Intelligence Committee memo on alleged government surveillance abuses was released Saturday afternoon. House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes, R-Calif., acknowledged its release at his appearance at the Conservative Political Action Conference, at about 4 p.m. "It's just posted," he told American Conservative Union chairman Matt Schlapp, quipping that the committee website was probably already crashing due to high traffic. Democrats say their memo was written as a rebuttal to provide greater context to a Republican memo that was released earlier this month, which outlines abuses by the FBI and the Justice Department...
