Ever since 1998 when I first learned of the Convention process (Precinct, County, State and then National) I have gone to my precinct and county conventions. Sometimes I have gone on to the State Convention but I like being involved in writing the State Republican party platform. Each convention works the same way, elect delegates to go to the next step and pass resolutions to go to the next step. This is the true grassroots. Today was my 1st County convention in my new county that I moved to after “Going Galt”. Mostly things went well, a few didn’t work...

Rightwingpatriot.com would like to wish everyone a happy new year. Let us hope and pray that some sanity is restored to our country in the upcoming year and that, as a nation, we can alter our downward course and set ourselves back onto the path of prosperity and liberty. Let us make a new year's resolution to work harder to support and elect conservatives to all levels of government: local, state, and federal. We need to kick out of office those who do not hold to conservative principles and seek to limit the size and scope of governmental power. Once...

Every New Year’s, we write personal lists of resolutions for ourselves. Lose the weight, advance the career, learn a skill, write that book. A good concept, especially if we really do accomplish some of them! But the problems America faces today aren’t going to be resolved that way. We are being impoverished by a leviathan state, and problems caused by government action can only be solved by government action. There’s no point in my proposing any resolutions to the Democratic Party; as a non-member, I have no right to expect them to listen to me. But as a lifelong Republican,...

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu on Sunday evening reiterated that the deal reached between the West and Iran over its nuclear program was dangerous and a mistake. “As we learn more and more details about the agreement that was achieved last night in Geneva, it becomes increasingly clear how bad and dangerous this agreement is to the world, the region and Israel,” Netanyahu said in a speech at the EMET Prize award ceremony in Jerusalem. “Iran is receiving billions of dollars in eased sanctions without having to pay any real price. Iran is receiving written approval to violate UN Security Council...

Time once again for a list of New Year’s Resolutions for the Republican Party. The party leaders haven’t taken my advice these past few years, so there’s no reason to believe they shall this year, but who knows? Perhaps if things get too dire, they’ll start looking to bloggers for solutions to the problems that their top consultants haven’t been able to solve. One can but hope. 1. Learn the Meaning of Compromise This isn’t entirely fair, but it’s still a good place to begin. Republicans are notorious for conceding defeat before negotiations begin. Let’s say for example that the...

With 2012 upon us it is time for New Year resolutions. Since the Legislature is on holiday recess and the governor is undoubtedly enjoying the holiday season with family and friends, I have taken the liberty to prepare a list of New Year resolutions for our elected leaders. Save any budget surplus – Legislators should resist the urge to spend any money, estimated to be as much as $800 million, left over from surplus revenues from 2011. Detroit is teetering on the edge of bankruptcy and the economic recovery in Michigan is spotty at best. Saving what we can is...

New Year’s Resolutions David C. Stolinsky Jan. 1, 2012 Many people make New Year’s resolutions. Often these include vows to eat less and exercise more. Rather than these healthful but self-centered goals, may I suggest a different set of resolutions: Use compassion for those who deserve it. After we have punished the criminal, expressed compassion for all his victims, and done our best to relieve their suffering, then we can feel compassion for the criminal. But till then, feeling compassion for both criminal and victim leads only to more criminals and more victims – who need more compassion....

It’s time again to do our annual resolutions. You have yours; I have mine… and here are my proposed resolutions for the Republican Party. 1) RETURN HONESTY TO THE PRIMARY DEBATES There was a time when everyone knew what a debate was, when the public expected them to be done right, and when the public would have been horrified if you announced a debate and then refused to hold one. Today, unfortunately, the messes we call debates are simply… not! A proper debate is a rigidly organized program in which each party is asked the same questions, given the same...

Getting healthy is a top priority One of my New Year’s resolutions is health-related. I’m not alone. Steve Vernon of moneywatch.com states: “According to a recent poll taken by the Society of Actuaries, about 80 percent of respondents said that taking care of their health was their top strategy for managing their medical bills, well ahead of buying medical insurance.” He advises: “Take just a few steps in January to establish good nutrition habits, and you’ll be well on your way to improving your health and increasing your lifespan.” (In America, it will take energy to escape Obama-approved death panels.)...

I probably shouldn't be telling you this, but a friend of a friend of mine knows this guy who met a woman who was once hit on at a party by Julian Assange. Julian asked for her phone number but she gave him the number of a drug store in Toledo instead. Julian must have assumed that he wrote it down wrong because he didn't give up but instead used his considerable talents to track her down. We'll call her Sheila because I always change the names to protect the guilty. So Julian kept writing Sheila these strange little love...

...'For a son of God each day should be an opportunity for renewal, knowing for sure that with the help of grace he will reach the end of the road, which is Love. That is why if you begin and begin again, you are doing well...' (The Forge, 344) The London Daily Mail recently ran an article entitled "New Year's resolutions 'barely last longer than a week'" However, the fact remains, we all make them. The experience is nearly universal. Some Nations use different calendars, but the passing of one year to another is marked by a deliberate period of...

Iran has been able to smuggle advanced technological equipment to its uranium enrichment plant in Natanz via a complex smuggling route based in Dubai, the Sunday Telegraph reported on Sunday. According to the report, an Iranian company has purchased control systems from one of Germany's leading electronic manufacturers. The deal was negotiated with a Dubai trading company, which in turn sold Iran a range of electronic equipment for use at its enrichment facility, the British website reported. The report comes amid growing concerns that though Iran claims its nuclear program has only peaceful aims, Tehran is in fact working toward...

President Obama and French President Nicolas Sarkozy earlier this week urged reluctant members of the United Nations Security Council to quickly pass sanctions against Iran. But that is highly unlikely, as Obama himself acknowledged: “Do we have unanimity in the international community? Not yet. And that’s something we have to work on.” In the absence of decisive action from the U.N., the Obama Administration should work with allies to impose strong sanctions outside the U.N. framework, where effective action is hampered by the veto power of China and Russia. Diplomatic Foot-DraggingPredictably, the U.S. push for another round of sanctions at...

SYDNEY – Under explosive bursts of crimson, purple and blue, more than 1 million New Year revelers in Sydney got one of the world's biggest parties started Thursday — bidding farewell to the tough year that was 2009 and welcoming a new decade. As the family-friendly, pre-midnight fireworks show illuminated Australia's largest city, preparations were under way across the world for pyrotechnics, parties and prayers in the final countdown to herald the end of the period dubbed "the Noughties." The mood of celebrations was tempered in some places by the effects of the financial downturn, which bit hard in 2009,...
