BRIGHTON - Gun-rights activist Rick Stanley, a Denver businessman and former Libertarian candidate for the U.S. Senate, was sentenced to six years in prison Friday for threatening two judges. Stanley, 49, owner of Stanley Fastener & Shop Supply in northeast Denver, was taken from Adams County District Court in handcuffs. "When you really analyze it, this is an assault on the very system of justice in this country," said presiding Judge Joseph R. Quinn, a retired state Supreme Court justice. Stanley's attorney, Brett Davies, said the punishment was "worse" than expected. "They've made a monster out of him," Davies said....

BRIGHTON - Gun activist Rick Stanley was found guilty Thursday on two felony counts of attempting to influence a public official. Stanley, 49, owner of a Denver shop-supply company, said he was prepared for the verdict in the trial, which began Monday in Adams County District Court behind double security screening - once at the door of the courthouse and again at the door of the courtroom. The four-man, eight-woman jury deliberated Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning, before returning its decision in a fifth-floor courtroom with at least 14 uniformed sheriff's deputies cordoning off Stanley, the attorneys, judge and jury...

BRIGHTON - The jury deliberating the case against Rick E. Stanley asked the judge a rare question Wednesday that didn't sit well with the gun rights activist. "Does Mr. Stanley have the names and addresses of the jury?" was the question posed to retired Supreme Court Justice Joseph R. Quinn, who is presiding at the trial. With that, Stanley bowed his head in apparent disappointment. Adams County prosecutors and Stanley's defense lawyers agreed to let the judge tell the jurors that Stanley will have access only to their names, not their addresses. Defense lawyer R. Scott Reisch said the question...

BRIGHTON - Rick E. Stanley came face to face Tuesday with the Adams County district judge he wanted arrested by a militia for ruling against him on his appeal of a weapons conviction. District Judge Donald W. Marshall Jr. found himself on the witness stand rather than on the bench as he testified against Stanley, a gun rights activist. Stanley, 49, is on trial on two felony charges of attempting to influence a public servant. An Adams County jury is expected to begin deliberations today. The trial stems from a "notice of order" Stanley sent to Marshall and to Thornton...

Now that we have only 18 months (since CFR was signed) of free speech, we need to escalate the freeps and DEMAND of Washington DC to return to a Constitutional government. On Bill of Rights day December 15, 2001 Rick Stanley had a rally and holstered his sidearm. Of course he was then arrested. You probably read about it here on FR. But he has stood up for our rights. We need to stand up now for all our rights. Details and co-ordination can be found at: http://www.stanley2002.org/national.htm He also issued a challenge to have a Bill of Rights rally...
