A Mexican teenager who pleaded guilty to killing Border Patrol Agent Robert Rosas last year was sentenced Thursday to 40 years in prison. Christian Daniel Castro Alvarez, 17, was sentenced in federal court in downtown San Diego. Federal officials added a quarter-million dollars to the already enormous FBI reward for information leading to the killer(s) of Agent Robert Rosas. Rosas's body was found on the night of July 23 near Campo. The 30-year-old agent was killed while responding alone to a suspected border incursion near Campo. CAMPO - A U.S. Border Patrol agent was fatally shot in Campo near the border with Baja California Thursday night. The shooting was reported about 9:15 p.m. near the border on Shockey Truck Trail southeast of the San Diego Sheriff Department's Campo substation. Four engines, paramedics, and a medical helicopter were dispatched to the area, but the agent was declared dead at the scene, according to Cal Fire Battalion Chief Nick Schuler. Police report that the victim was shot in the head.
