  • Vanity: 9/11: Ten years later

9/11 is probably one of the hardest topics to write about because so many emotions arise: sadness for the loss of so many innocent lives; anger, because someone dared to attack the United States of America; and pride because of the strength and patriotism Americans showed during such a tragic moment in our history. We all can remember where we were ten years ago today. I was just six years old and seeing America under attack forever changed me, my convictions, my feelings towards America. I'm never going to forget that day. 10 years later, there's still a scar in...

President Obama stressed that America was not at war with Islam as he decried the "sorry band of men" who attacked the nation nine years ago in memorial ceremonies at the Pentagon on Saturday. "The perpetrators of this evil act didn't simply attack America; they attacked the very idea of America itself -- all that we stand for and represent in the world," Obama said. "And so the highest honor we can pay those we lost, indeed our greatest weapon in this ongoing war, is to do what our adversaries fear the most -- to stay true to who we...
  • Lone Moussaoui juror who rejected death penalty didn't explain his vote

Only one juror stood between the death penalty and Zacarias Moussaoui and that juror frustrated his colleagues because he never explained his vote, according to the foreman of the jury that sentenced the Al-Qaida operative to life in prison last week. The foreman, a Virginia math teacher, said in an interview that the panel voted 11-1, 10-2 and 10-2 in favor of the death penalty on three terrorism charges. A unanimous vote on any one of them would have resulted in a death sentence.
  • Editorial: Jury opted for courage over revenge (Barf Alert!)

Americans can be proud of a jury that had the courage to reject the death penalty for a man so despicable as Zacarias Moussaoui. Never had the nation suffered a crime so horrendous as that of Sept. 11, 2001, and seldom had a defendant so relished his role (a bit part, as it turns out) in the terror. Moussaoui all but sneered at the victims and their tearful families, and boasted joyfully of Al-Qaida's treachery. Yet, the jury spared his life and rightfully so. Moussaoui may have entered this country with an intent to do terrible things. But he never...
  • Domestic Terror Groups

As the United States prepares itself for the post 9-11 world, it must fight the threats of domestic terrorism as well as terrorism abroad. Osama bin Laden’s network, Al Qaeda, tops most people’s lists of the most serious threats to our security, and for good reason, but there are also many homegrown terrorist groups at work in this country. As the war on terror continues, we must destroy all terrorist groups that seek to cause loss of life, liberty and property. We cannot take any threat lightly, and we must neutralize those groups that want to bring our great nation...
