The most dangerous use of a serial number on a firearm is as a registration number. In effect, gun registration is gun confiscation. It was not the intent for which serial numbers were made. Gordon granted a motion to dismiss the charge of possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number in violation of 18 U.S.C. §§ 922(k) as being facially unconstitutional. The recent horrific shooting in Kansas has drawn national attention.  On the facebook page of the dead suspect ( I will not mention his name here) was this picture of a Glock pistol.  It is a bit unusual.
