Tuesday was another day in another city, another time to reintroduce himself to his home state and maybe capture some votes along the way. It hasn't been this way for Jeff Sessions since the beginning, this constant touring of Alabama soliciting support after Alabama elected him four times to serve as their senator in Washington. And now it seems Sessions, after 20 years in the Senate, is back at the beginning.

With less than three weeks to go until the primary election on March 3, a new Alabama Daily News poll shows a tight race among Republican contenders for the U.S. Senate. According to the survey of likely Republican voters, if the election were held today, 31% would vote for former U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions, 29% would choose former Auburn football coach Tommy Tuberville and 17% would choose Congressman Bradley Byrne. Five percent said they would choose former Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore, and no other candidate registered more than 1%. Sixteen percent of voters said they were undecided.

A Justice Department inquiry launched more than two years ago to mollify conservatives clamoring for more investigations of Hillary Clinton has effectively ended with no tangible results, and current and former law enforcement officials said they never expected the effort to produce much of anything. ohn Huber, the U.S. attorney in Utah, was tapped in November 2017 by then-Attorney General Jeff Sessions to look into concerns raised by President Trump and his allies in Congress that the FBI had not fully pursued cases of possible corruption at the Clinton Foundation and during Clinton’s time as secretary of state, when the...

(CNN) Sen. Doug Jones of Alabama on Sunday described the allegations against President Donald Trump as "serious" but said he is keeping an open mind when it comes to the Senate impeachment trial. Appearing on ABC's "This Week," Jones said he has been reviewing information about the allegations that Trump used his office to pressure Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky to dig up dirt on a potential political rival. "I'm trying to see if the dots get connected. If that is the case, then I think it's a serious matter. I think it's an impeachable matter," he said. "But if these...

Jeff Sessions was in Laura Ingraham’s show tonight. Ingraham was very pointed. She asked him about the IG today, Comey, and the FBi Investigation of Trump’s Campaign. She asked him directly twice, wasn’t this essentially Entrapment of his campaign people? Sessions looked like he was going to cry. He then said, feeling the pressure, I’ll answer you like this, we need to find out what happened. WHAT? Yeah, his best answer, 3 years later, after actually being pressed, was - we need to find out what happened. Wow.

Former Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein reportedly said that he discussed the firing of former FBI Director James Comey with former Attorney General Jeff Sessions in late 2016 or early 2017, according to a new batch of documents released in relation to former special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into election interference. The documents, released due to a CNN and BuzzFeed lawsuit, totaled 295 pages of witness memoranda and notes from FBI interviews that were part of the special counsel's probe. President Trump fired Comey in 2017, saying that he was acting on recommendations from Sessions and Rosenstein. Mueller's probe began...

Jeff Sessions’ path to regaining a place in the U.S. Senate may have gotten a little bit easier. Alabama Secretary of State John Merrill decided to end his own run for Senate yesterday specifically citing the ex-Attorney General’s entry into the race in his campaign suspension announcement on Facebook. With the announcement by Senator Jeff Sessions on November 7th, the dynamics of this election have changed dramatically. When I entered the race on June 25th, I, along with my family and closest supporters, saw a path to victory. We met our initial goals and had six months of successful...

In a Monday interview with “Fox & Friends,” former U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions called on House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) to bring the impeachment inquiry to a “conclusion.” Sessions, a candidate for his old U.S. Senate seat in Alabama, said the impeachment probe is “not well-founded,” adding Pelosi is “wrong” to threaten President Donald Trump if he criticizes the Ukraine whistleblower’s identity remaining a secret.

Former Attorney General Jeff Sessions made the case Wednesday for President Trump to support his second run for to represent Alabama in the Senate, saying that if he elected he would support the president aggressively. "He didn't have a better supporter in the United States Senate than when I was there. I was his first supporter in the United States Senate," Sessions said on "The Ingraham Angle." "And if I go back to the United States Senate, he won't have a more aggressive, determined supporter when I get back." Sessions told Ingraham he will "work for" Trump's endorsement and that...

Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, said he warned Sessions during a recent conversation about his potential candidacy that he needed to make up with Trump. "He is a friend of mine. I'll be doing everything I can to encourage him," Cornyn said. "The problem, as I pointed out to him, is, 'I think your life is going to be very difficult unless you work out some sort of reconciliation with the president.' Republican Sen. Richard C. Shelby endorsed his former Alabama Senate colleague for an expected 2020 Senate bid. “I believe he will be a formidable candidate,” Shelby said Thursday. About a year ago, Jeff Sessions was forced out of his role as attorney general by President Donald Trump. Prior to that, Sessions served in the Senate for about two decades. He was first elected in 1996. Sessions would take on the Democratic incumbent, Doug Jones, who narrowly won a Dec. 2017 special election runoff to fill the remainder of Sessions’ Senate term. Sen. John Kennedy, a Louisiana Republican, declined to say...

WASHINGTON (AP) — Former Attorney General Jeff Sessions will announce he’s running for his old Senate seat in Alabama. Sessions is expected to make the announcement on Thursday. His decision to run was confirmed to The Associated Press on Wednesday by two Republicans with direct knowledge of his plans. They were not authorized to discuss it publicly and spoke on condition of anonymity. Sessions long held the seat he will now pursue but stepped down to serve as President Donald Trump’s first attorney general. He was ousted after enduring public mocking from Trump for recusing himself from special counsel Robert...

Alabama Democratic Sen. Doug Jones was gifted his seat on the Hill. His Republican opponent during the 2017 special election was marred by sexual misconduct allegations involving girls who were underaged at the time. Roy Moore was a trainwreck—and he could torpedo GOP chances of retaking the seat in 2020 because he’s running again. Pass the whiskey bottle. This is an insanely winnable seat that could be held by Democrats if Moore muddies the waters. Jones was lucky in that the Alabama GOP in some odd turn of events, couldn’t get a sentient being to run for then-Attorney General Jeff...

It will be another four and a half months before Republican voters in Alabama select a GOP nominee to face incumbent Sen. Doug Jones (D-AL) in the Nov. 3, 2020 general election. However, there could be a familiar face among the list of candidates on the ballot. In recent days, there has been rampant speculation that former U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions could enter the contest for his old seat. Sessions held the seat currently occupied by Jones from 1997 through 2017. He gave up that seat to serve in the Trump administration until his unceremonious exit in late 2018....
