U.S. President Barack Obama delivered his final "State of the Union" address Tuesday night, offering a vigorous defense of his years in office and calling on politicians and the American public to overcome partisanship and fear. [...] According to a transcript of the speech, he didn't mention the word "Europe" once in the 58-minute address. ...

If you missed the president's final State of the Union message Tuesday night, don't worry. It might have been billed as historic, but you didn't miss much. There were no surprises. No shocks. No awe. Nothing historic or memorable. It was the usual Obama setup -- "We have to find a way to come together, end the government gridlock and make America better and stronger" -- followed by the implication that Washington isn't working the way it should because Republicans in Congress are mean, stubborn or stupid. In seven years Obama hasn't changed the country, not for the better anyway....

If you're what Obama considers the right religion, or you have the right kind of sex, or have the right kind of political beliefs, chances are you were welcome at Obama's final State of the Caliphate Union address. 1) A Syrian refugee. This particular refugee hasn't killed anyone in a terrorist attack, proving we should invite more. 2) An illegal alien (since legalized), with a college education subsidized by taxpayers. What could be more American than that? 3) The homosexual man (Jim Obergefell) who fought to impose homosexual marriage on the rest of us. The question remains: would Obama still...

Tuesday evening marked President Barack seventh State of the Union address. Conservative voices took their reactions to Twitter while Obama addressed the nation from inside the House chamber during a joint session of Congress. Here are some of the top tweets made during or right after Obama’s remarks:

“There will be, in the next generation or so, a pharmacological method of making people love their servitude, and producing dictatorship without tears, so to speak, producing a kind of painless concentration camp for entire societies, so that people will in fact have their liberties taken away from them, but will rather enjoy it, because they will be distracted from any desire to rebel by propaganda or brainwashing, or brainwashing enhanced by pharmacological methods. And this seems to be the final revolution.â€â€”Aldous Huxley There’s a man who contacts me several times a week to disagree with my assessments of the...

In full disclosure, I wrote this last night before the State of the Union address. I guessed then and I was right - none of this was addressed by Obama in his speech. Last week we shared how horrific January 2016 began in its first week. Week two doesn't look much better. President Obama tried to present a world of rainbows and unicorns in his final State of the Union address, but that's about as real as the Land of Oz. Barack Obama and his minions can attempt to create an alternative universe in which they live, but the truth...

The transcript of the 2017 State of the Union address, as delivered by President Donald Trump: Thank you. Thank you. I have to say, nice building, this Capitol. Nice room. But too old-fashioned, don't you think? I do this all the time. I acquire these rundown old properties, I buy them cheap, I bring in my decorators, we fix it up. More mirrors, more gold trim, a nice statue of me ... we'll have it looking beautiful. Come back next year, you'll be amazed. There's our new First Lady, Melania, up in the balcony. First supermodel in the White House....

A double-header today! They go hand-in-hand, so why not?

Longtime readers know that I am not exactly the strongest supporter of Donald Trump. As a big employer of illegal aliens and a five-time party switcher, his commitment lends itself to some doubts. But that is no excuse to criticize him in a forum meant to represent the Republican Party response to the Democratic Party. That is, however, just what South Carolina governor Nikki Haley did. According to her prepared remarks, Haley said: During anxious times, it can be tempting to follow the siren call of the angriest voices," she will say, suggesting that Trump is an irrational, angry...

A president's eighth State of the Union address is supposed to be his victory lap, a final year in the spotlight, in which he touts his achievements and then rides off into the sunset. Tonight, President Obama may utter the clichéd words, "The state of our union is strong!" If he does, it's just one more lie upon the pile. Obama will probably boast he brought the country back from the financial brink and try to argue that the American economy is doing well. (Avoiding "the brink" only took $8 trillion in new debt.) He will undoubtedly boast of...

In A Night At The Opera, Groucho Marx's carriage, running late, pulls up at the opera house, and he asks whether he's missed the opera. There's still a few minutes left, says the doorman. Groucho barks at his driver: "I told you to slow that nag down.... Once around the park, and drive slowly." That's my approach to the State of the Union. I took it once around the park and slowly, and arrived home just as President Obama was schmoozing and gladhanding his way out the door. But, alas, I had forgotten the Official Response to the State of...

President Obama’s call for “a new national effort†to cure cancer during his State of the Union address on Tuesday seemed familiar to fans of Aaron Sorkin’s “West Wing†television show. That’s because there was an entire episode in 2002 of the NBC show where the fictional president played by Martin Sheen made nearly identical comments. On Tuesday, Obama said: “Tonight, I’m announcing a new national effort to get it done…For the loved ones we’ve all lost, for the family we can still save, let’s make America the country that cures cancer once and for all.†During the “West Wingâ€...

State of the Union Addresses belong solely to Presidents of the United States. In Article II, Section 3 the Constitution reads: He shall from time to time give to the Congress information of the state of the union, and recommend to their consideration such measures as he shall judge necessary and expedient There is no requirement that it be an annual report. Nor, is there a requirement that it be delivered in the form of a speech in the Chamber of the U.S. House. Jimmy Carter delivered all four of his State of the Union addresses in written form. Harry...

President Barack Obama signaled in his final State of the Union address Tuesday night that fossil fuel companies could face higher charges when mining on federal lands. Obama said that he's going to push to change the way the federal government manages its oil and coal resources to better reflect the costs they impose on taxpayers and the planet.

Last night we boarded the Big Yellow Bus…and headed over to the Capital for Big Guy’s last SOTU where, promising brevity, he droned on for an hour - which is brief in Obama-speak.In order to save time he declined to mention Lady M and her symbolic guests this year, including the victims of gun violence who were invited butt unable to attend.Lady M haz a sad for the gun victims, who had no guns with which to shoot backThat empty chair symbolism will continue to have a lasting impact on the legacy of the Obama presidency. Although oddly enough, nobody...

At one time in the United States, when storied leaders like Thomas Jefferson, Dwight D. Eisenhower, and Ronald Reagan walked the corridors of the White House, the annual State of the Union actually meant something. Whether delivered as a written report, or in person to a joint session of Congress, the ceremonial act was, as Article II of the U. S. Constitution mandates, an opportunity for the President to "give to the Congress information of the state of the union," as well as recommend policies to fix the issues currently facing the nation. Most importantly, given the stature and respect...

Here at NewsBusters, one of our classification categories under Media Bias is "Sudden Respect." The notion is that all a Republican has to do to win praise from the MSM is to bash fellow Republicans or conservatives. There was a perfect illustration of the phenomenon on today's Morning Joe. In her Republican response to the SOTU, South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley counseled Republicans to reject "the siren call of the angriest voices" and urged "welcoming immigrants regardless of race or religion." The shots at Donald Trump and to some extent at Ted Cruz were unmistakeable. Morning Joe loved it. "Welcome...

Congress released the full text of Gov. Nikki Haley (R-SC)'s response to President Obama's State of the Union address, as prepared for delivery: "Good evening." "I'm Nikki Haley, Governor of the great state of South Carolina. "I'm speaking tonight from Columbia, our state's capital city. Much like America as a whole, ours is a state with a rich and complicated history, one that proves the idea that each day can be better than the last. "In just a minute, I'm going to talk about a vision of a brighter American future. But first I want to say a few words...

Remember last year when President Obama followed up the State of the Union by doing interviews with YouTube stars? Well, he's doing it again this week. Social media personalities Ingrid Nilsen (a.k.a. Missglamorazzi), Destin Sandin (of the science channel Smarter Every Day), and Adande Thorne (a.k.a. sWooZie)--all of whom have over 3 million subscribers each--will all get to ask questions of the president, presumably related to issues brought up during the State of the Union tomorrow night. All three YouTubers posted videos expressing their excitement and encouraging fans to send questions their way: (VIDEO-AT-LINK) The State of the Union airs...
