Five fired Memphis police officers were charged on Thursday with second-degree murder over the death of Tyre Nichols - who died three days after being beaten during a January 7 traffic stop. Demetrius Haley, Tadarrius Bean, Desmond Mills, Jr., Emmitt Martin III and Justin Smith, who are all black, are now in custody. Police arrested a mail carrier after she was found drunk inside a residence while on the job in Marion earlier this month, authorities said Tuesday. Kristine A. Danville, Calif. -- Several pieces from a FedEx Corp. cargo plane dropped from the sky into a neighborhood in this San Francisco suburb Monday night, authorities said. Officials with the Federal Aviation Administration said three pieces of the plane fell to the ground around 8 p.m., landing mostly in empty yards. The FedEx crew, flying from Oakland to Dallas, did not know it had lost the parts from around an engine until it landed safely in Texas, the FAA said.

Forty-eight year-old Mary Lee Roberts was arraigned Thursday on a charge of possession of a controlled substance. She was released and faces a preliminary hearing August ninth.
