Guess where the California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger is tonight. How 'bout at a fancy White House dinner honoring his mother-in-law, Eunice Kennedy Shriver, and the Special Olympics, the organization which she founded? In a measure of just how reluctant the Republican governor may be to be linked to the unpopular Republican president, Schwarzenegger took off for the East Coast today with no announcement that he and Maria Shriver would be VIP guests at the big White House fete held on the birthday of the First Lady's mom. We called the governor's office today and got no immediate confirmation on the...

When Wendy Erdman first laid eyes on her husband-to-be, Ben, she instantly felt a connection with him. The couple - both of whom have Down syndrome - fell in love four years ago and, like most married people, are stronger together than they ever were apart. At home, the two take care of each other, share cooking and cleaning duties, and greet each other when they arrive home from work (Wendy works at Chick-fil-A; Ben has a job at Texas A&M University). The pair, married for about two years, sit closely on a blue and white plaid couch inside their...

Special Olympics is outraged and have publicly issued the following statement: STATEMENT IN REGARDS TO DEROGATORY PORTRAYAL OF SPECIAL OLYMPICS ATHLETES IN POLITICAL FLYER From the office of Timothy P. Shriver Chairman and CEO, Special Olympics We at Special Olympics are astounded and appalled by a political flyer being distributed in Tennessee, showing the head of President Bush superimposed on the body of a Special Olympics athlete, saying, "Even if you win, you're still retarded." We see this communication as an egregious, gratuitous insult to our almost 2 million athletes in over 150 countries around the world and a stunning...
