A REAL picture of Saddam being dragged out of his spider hole. The source is a Special Forces soldier on the scene when the capture occurred. He was documenting the raid with a camera. A picture is definitely worth a thousand words, so ... Naturally, Saddam was willing to negotiate ...

THE hole where Saddam Hussein was found is to be taken to America — as a monument to his capture. US military engineers plan to excavate a huge block of Iraqi soil containing the underground chamber. It might even be turned into a tourist attraction — with money raised going to relatives of soldiers killed in Iraq. Commanders want Saddam’s last hiding place to be displayed at the giant Fort Hood military base in Texas. It is home to the 4th Infantry Division, which seized Saddam on December 13. US Army spokesman Major Gordon Tate said yesterday in the toppled...

When you click on one of the pictures you will be taken to the "Spiegel" slideshow, which loaded pretty quickly, even on a dial up. These look like they were candids taken by GI's. There was another slideshow on the same theme last Sunday, the link to that in my comment below. Click on a picture,to go to the slideshow (9 Pictures).

DefenseWatch "The Voice of the Grunt" 12-16-2003 Guest Column: Saddam the Sewer Rat By Derek C. Schneider How are the mighty fallen – II Samuel 1:25 “He was just caught like a rat” was how Maj. Gen. Ray Odierno, commander of the 4th Infantry Division, described the capture of Saddam Hussein. Caught like a “sewer rat” is closer to the truth. That’s because in all likelihood the hole in which Saddam was hiding was not a specially built “spider hole” as commentators and even many soldiers believed. Based on my own recent work in Iraq, I know that Saddam Hussein’s...

A scene in the movie Patton shows the 7th Army capturing the city of Syracuse (for those who went to public schools, Patton captures the Syracuse in Sicily, not upstate New York). The scene cuts to German headquarters where the commanding general hears the news and says, “damn”! Next, British General Montgomery hears the news and says, “damn”! It was easy to imagine similar scenes at terrorist camps across the world and Democrat campaign offices across America when the news of Saddam Hussein’s capture broke Sunday. This is the latest in a string of reports bringing good news for America,...

December 16, 2003 -- ADWAR, Iraq - The infamous hole where U.S. Special Forces troops found a cowering Saddam Hussein was small, dark and musty. After about two or three minutes, I began to feel very claustrophobic.

I was very pleased when I finally got out of there.

Inside Saddam's lair, the detritus of a fugitive's life Rory McCarthy in Ad Dawr, where Saddam existed in squalor not far from his former palace Tuesday December 16, 2003 The Guardian (UK) There is a rickety wooden ladder leading to the corrugated iron roof on top of the brick hut and if he had climbed up, leant against the date palm and peered out on a clear day, Saddam Hussein might just have been able to make out his opulent Tikrit palace further upstream on the far bank of the Tigris. Perhaps he took that image with him and with...

THEY FOUND HIM IN A HOLE It’s only natural that they found him in a hole in the ground. It put him that much closer to hell. Because that is where Saddam Hussein belongs. It is where Saddam Hussein has drawn his inspiration. It is the home of the god Saddam Hussein worships. Not the Allah of Islam. But the serpent of the garden. We must never fear calling a spade a spade, or a devil a devil. And Saddam Hussein is that. He long since stopped being a man and became a partner with evil. A disciple of darkness....

ADWAR, Iraq - When darkness fell, the Americans moved into position, 600 of them, from infantrymen to elite special forces. Their target: two houses in this rural village of orange, lemon and palm groves. Someone big was inside, they were told. But when they struck, they found nothing. Then they spotted two men running away from a small walled compound in the trees. Inside, in front of a mud-brick hut, the troops pulled back a carpet on the ground, cleared away the dirt and revealed a Styrofoam panel. Underneath, a hole led to a tiny chamber, just big enough for...

Did any of you catch it? I didn't see it, but I heard that Greg Palkot was messing around in Saddam's "palace." That's great. They can make it a tourist destination, with all the money going towards the Iraqi people. "Climb in the Saddam pit. The experience of a lifetime." Of course, that stinky, filthy place must be crawling with ten different types of vermin.

WASHINGTON — On Saturday night, I stuffed myself on lamb chops and potato pancakes at a holiday party at the home of Don and Joyce Rumsfeld. Along with other media bigfeet, I chatted up Rummy and C.I.A. chief George Tenet, both of whom were in on the secret of the capture of Saddam a few hours before. Neither man even hinted at a thing. So much for being a Washington Insider. After the news broke Sunday morning, I asked a source in Iraq to speak to members of the Governing Council who had spent a half-hour with the prisoner after...

Has America ever captured the leader of a foreign country that was our enemy before? Revolutionary War: Nope. 1812 War with Canada: Nope.Spanish/American War: Nope.World War One: Nope.World War Two, Germany: Nope.World War Two, Italy: Nope.World War Two, Japan: Close, but I don't think we actually took the Emperor into custody.Vietnam War: Nope. This is an unprecedented event. Our behavior will be scrutinized. I have no doubt we will behave honorably -- it is our way -- but this is a precendent-setting event and will probably be the model for all other countries we invade, should the need arise. That...
