As long as players don't get caught knocking out women on camera for the world to see, they're cleared to play football in the NFL Ray Rice has become “Peck’s Bad Boy” for a deteriorating National Football League. When the first video of him dragging his unconscious fianc√©e out of an elevator appeared in July, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell slapped Rice’s wrist with a two-game suspension. Goodell went on to revise the league’s disciplinary policy regarding domestic violence to include a minimum six-game suspension or more for the first infraction and up to a lifetime ban for the second, with...

Some of New York’s most exclusive golf clubs would not let President Barack Obama play over Labor Day weekend, according to a report. The Trump National Golf Club, Winged Foot and Willow Ridge rejected requests to let Obama tee off, which may have required the clubs to close their doors to regular members, WNBC reported. White House staffers allegedly gave just a day or two of notice to golf courses in the area where the president was scheduled to stay on Friday evening after attending fundraising events in New York and Rhode Island. Representatives of all three golf courses declined...

Ray Rice has been fired from the Baltimore Ravens and suspended indefinitely by the NFL. Why? That’s the million dollar question at this point. It seems to be more about political correctness and caving to political lobby’s than anything else. We’ve known for months that Rice beat up his then fiancee and knocked her unconscious. This fact resulted in a minor criminal case and a two game suspension from the NFL. Earlier this week gossip site TMZ got hold of the closed circuit video of the attack and now ESPN’s hoard of commentators is completely outraged, Rice has been fired...

Last year, I wrote about mentoring a new hunter. It is harder to bring new hunters into the gun culture now than when I was a child. When I started hunting at age 11, with an air rifle on the farm in northern Wisconsin, I grabbed a gun, stepped out the door, and was hunting. My father had carefully told me what pests I could hunt. In a year, I was using a real rifle, a .22. My father taught me to shoot, but most of my early hunting was alone or in the company of one or...

If Michael Sam doesn't have a job by next Monday, he has at least one standing offer. WWE has invited Sam to appear on the Sept. 8 episode of Raw. WWE ✔ @WWE 2013 @SEC Defensive Player of Year & @NFL @STLouisRams draft pick @MichaelSamNFL invited to @WWE #RAW next week! 8:13 PM - 1 Sep 2014 625 Retweets 440 favorites During Monday's broadcast, the company said it would give Sam an 'open microphone' where he could tell his side of the story -- whatever that means. Call me crazy, but I don't think WWE is going to get the...

Last year someone in FR suggested that I could watch Clemson football on-line by going to Justin.tv. It was great, but this year I found out that Justin.tv does not exist any longer. I am too old to go to watch the game at a bar, and I'm not up to the heat and the crowds at Death Valley to watch the game in the giant screens. Does anybody in FR know of a reliable website where I can watch the game on-line at home? Thanks and go Tigers!

I'm attempting to understand why some of the descendants of the people Christopher Columbus called "Indians" say they are ashamed to be called "redskins". The only explanation I can think of is they are ashamed that they are not white or perhaps they are simply ashamed of their heritage. In the 1950's many black Americans were ashamed of their color. They tried to bleach their skin and straighten their hair to look more like white people. In the early sixties someone discovered a statement abolitionist John Sweat Rock had made a century earlier. Rock said, "black is beautiful". Many black...

In a startling example of hypocrisy, ESPN features a video of singer Chris Brown "breaking ankles" during warm ups for a celebrity basketball game, praising his "skills" less than a month after suspending its own commentators for open and honest discussion on domestic violence. The clip, obtained from the Instagram account of "nitty71" was featured ob the sports networks site with the gushing title Chris Brown Breaks Ankles (video at end of article). Courtesy of ESPN. ESPN had suspended commentator Stephen A Smith for comments he made in late July related to the suspension of NFL running back Ray Rice,...

By virtue of their victories in Williamsport today, Tokyo Kitasuna Little League (LL) from Japan and Jackie Robinson West LL of Chicago, Illinois earned the right to move on to Saturdays final four match ups in the 2014 LLWS. Japan shook off a lead-off home run from their opponents to secure their spot with a 12-1 victory over Mexico's Guadalupe Linda Vista LL in the days early game. In the evening US semi-final, Chicago capitalized on mistake filled first inning and withstood a gritty rally by Philadelphia's Taney Youth Baseball Association LL to hold on for a 6-5 win. Today's...

ABOUT RED BULL SOAPBOX RACE Not to be confused with the youth soapbox derby, Red Bull Soapbox Race is a national race for amateur drivers, which is fueled by creativity and competitive fun – not to mention the need for speed. This unique non-motorized racing event challenges both experienced racers and amateurs alike to design and build outrageous, human-powered soapbox dream machines and compete against the clock in a downhill race. Teams are judged on three criteria: speed, creativity and showmanship. This criteria has inspired a piano, a baby carriage, a rodeo clown, a massive cob of corn, a jail...

ESPN has a nasty habit of suspending people who they hire to share opinions. Stephen A. Smith was recently suspended for daring to suggest a woman shouldn’t antagonize her violent husband. You would think this is common sense. If a woman knows her man is violent and knows what will trigger him, it’s probably not a good idea to antagonize him. That doesn’t let husband off the hook of course and Smith so much as said so. Max Kellerman admitted on the air he hit his girlfriend years ago (it was in context of the NFL’s Ray Rice suspension, which...

The Redskins' defensive backs took the field against the Cleveland Browns with their hands raised — a nod to the 'Hands up, don't shoot' pose that has become a symbol of solidarity among protesters in Ferguson, Mo. Washington Redskins players showed support for slain Missouri teen Michael Brown on Monday night by running on to the field with their hands up during the team's introductions. Safety Brandon Meriweather led the team's defensive backs through a tunnel and onto FedEx Field with their hands raised, a nod to the "Hands up, don't shoot" pose that has become a rallying cry for...

The video stops just before Tony Stewart’s race car fatally impacts twenty-year-old Kevin Ward, Jr. I know there’s a full version of it all over the Internet, a man—barely older than a boy—losing his life on camera. I’m glad I haven’t watched it, and I don’t intend to. Watching someone die on video is something that can’t be un-seen once seen, and I, for one, will abstain. I have seen too many things that I’d like to un-see. In a quarter-second, two lives were joined forever. Kevin and Tony. What was the fatal attraction that drew them into such a...

The National Veterans Wheelchair Games (NVWG) is a sports and rehabilitation program for military service veterans who use wheelchairs for sports competition due to spinal cord injuries, amputations or certain neurological problems. Attracting more than 500 athletes each year, the NVWG is the largest annual wheelchair sports event in the world. President Obama made a surprise video appearance at the opening ceremonies of the 2014 Gay Games in Cleveland on Saturday. Joining Greg Louganis, Lance Bass, the Pointer Sisters, and Broadway’s Andrea McArdle and Alex Newell in celebrating the event, Obama said, “Since 1982 the Gay Games have given lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender athletes and supporters around the world a chance to come together to compete, celebrate, and inspire others.” President Obama, who is vacationing on Martha’s Vineyard, noted how the country has changed since the games began in 1982. “We’ve also seen America change in that time, even since...

You know, being a fan of the Minnesota Vikings is difficult enough just based on what happens on the field. We’re 0-4 in Super Bowls. We’ve got to deal with the stomach-curdling memories of the 1999 NFC Championship Game, not to mention 41-doughnut in the same game two years later, and the bounty-hunting Saints putting out a contract on Brett Favre in 2010. But on a cultural level . . . hey, what the heck did we do? We were just sitting here minding our own business. First we got stuck with a petulant, attention-mongering punter who couldn’t and can’t...

As the old saying goes: “The fastest way to disappointment is to depend on other people.” That saying is now becoming prevalent in the media world as well, and we largely have the New York Yankees, Arianna Huffington and Glenn Beck to thank for it. Huh? Let me explain… As reported here on Mediaite over the weekend, Fox News contributor Sarah Palin has launched her own eponymous channel for $9.95 per month or $99.95 per year on a new venture called TAPP (which stands for TV App). Her elevator pitch is simple: “Tired of media filters? Well, so am I”....

Along with being one of America's most honest and entertaining personalities in sports media, ESPN's Stephen A. Smith is member of a distinguished club of individuals who are regularly vilified and edited so as to be taken out of context as a consequence of supporting policies which incur liberal wrath. The latest faux controversy over allegedly controversial statements he made with Skip Bayless on ESPN's First Take. During the discussion which focused on NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell's decision to suspend Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice for two games as a result of his domestic violence charges, generally thought to...

It’s shocking how 1.6 percent of the population – I’m speaking of LGBTers – are controlling our culture. Years ago they told is over and over again that a person’s choice in sex partners shouldn’t matter. Now it seems that’s all that matters. Michael Sam feels compelled to tell the world that he has sex with other men, and he and his fellow-LGBTers demand that we accept his choice in sex partners or else. While Sam said that “everyone is entitled to their own opinions,” that’s not the way it’s working out. It’s gotten so bad that a person can’t...
