Amy Eldred, program chair and first vice president of RWKC, led a local caucus or straw poll about the Republican candidates for the 2016 Presidential election, after displaying a poster of all 15 of them so luncheon attendees would remember who they all are. Unofficial selections favored Ted Cruz or Carly Fiorina as Republican nominee. The Republican Women of Kerr County and their and guests held a luncheon meeting last Friday, expecting a visiting guest speaker from the Republican Party of Texas, and instead got to hold their own local caucus or straw poll about the 2016 Presidential election. When...

Could the Donald be falling? Texas Sen. Ted Cruz came out on top in the latest presidential straw poll, garnering 35 percent of the approximately 1,200 votes from the Values Voter Summit in Washington Saturday, NBC News reports. That’s the third year in a row Cruz has won the support from the forum. The affair comes amid some shakeup for the Republican party in the past week, with House Speaker John Boehner announcing his departure and Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, who has been criticized for not taking stronger conservative stances, ending his bid for the presidency. Social conservatives are further...

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Socially conservative Republicans gathered in Washington this week have their eye on Senator Ted Cruz of Texas for the party's presidential nod and former neurosurgeon Ben Carson for the Republican vice presidential nominee. Family Research Council Action, a Christian lobbying group, said on Saturday that more attendees polled at the Values Voter Summit said Cruz, a leader with the Republican's Tea Party wing, should be the party's presidential nominee for the November 2016 election. Cruz, who also won the group's so-called "straw poll" the previous two years, took 35 percent of the support among the nearly 2,700...

The results are in at the Values Voter Summit -- and, for once, Donald Trump fails to top a conservative poll. The straw poll at the summit, a conservative gathering hosted by the Family Research Council in Washington, D.C., showed Texas Sen. Ted Cruz winning over voters, leading the pack for the third year in a row. Cruz, with 35 percent of support, was followed by neurosurgeon-turned-politician Ben Carson, with 18 percent of the vote. Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee came in third, drawing 14 percent of supporters, followed by Florida Sen. Marco Rubio at 13 percent. Registering at fifth...

Last week’s CNN debate stirred the pot in what has been a roller coaster of an early primary season. A post-debate CNN poll showed Carly Fiorina surging into second place behind Donald Trump (a 12% jump since early September,) followed closely by Ben Carson. Right now, it’s an outsider’s race—but how long can it last? The tendency to wax and wane has been a hallmark of the GOP’s “outsider” candidates. Their bumps and slides have had less to do with their budding policy plans, and more to do with how they’ve handled themselves under the extreme pressure of the national...

Donald Trump took his colorful campaign to Nashville on Saturday, where he courted a constituency that some say he is tailor-made for: the tea party. He is competing in a presidential straw poll and addressed the National Federation of Republican Assemblies, a group that boasts it was "the tea party before there was a tea party." Trump's appearance was highly anticipated at the conservative gathering: As a candidate, he's hitting the same notes -- anger at conventional politics, contempt for Washington and distrust of special interests and lobbyists -- that propelled the tea party movement in 2010. "You have not...

Thursday, supporters of the Republican party were focused on Cleveland with FOX News holding the first debates of Republican Presidential candidates for the 2016 campaign. During the prime-time debate, members of the Lubbock County Young Republicans held a straw poll with those attending the Lubbock County Republican Party watch party at Mr. Gatti’s. Out of the 100-120 people in attendance, about half participated in the poll. Senator Ted Cruz scored the highest, garnering 37% (23 out of 62 votes). Senator Rand Paul placed second with 13% (8 votes). Mike Huckabee and Donald Trump tied for third with 11% (7 votes)....

Ted Cruz remains the first choice of Hot Air readers, followed by Scott Walker and Donald Trump. Most candidates have stayed steady over the last month, but as Trump rose, June’s third place winner Rick Perry fell. Whether Perry supporters have migrated or simply didn’t come out to vote this time, I don’t know, but Perry’s loss was basically Trump’s gain. That’s the first takeaway. The second takeaway is this: that regardless of who you support, a Republican primary debate without Bobby Jindal and Carly Fiorina would be woefully incomplete. Not only did both make the top 5 in the consensus...
