PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. (CBS12) — A team of sheriff's deputies "conducting an operation regarding illegal street racing" had their work cut out for them when one of the cars almost hit one of them, rammed his SUV, and led authorities on a chase. It all went down last Saturday night, Nov. 19, in Palm Beach Gardens and at one point flew by at 76 mph above the speed limit. Authorities followed "a group of vehicles to numerous locations” and eventually to Alternate A1A near Lighthouse Drive. ATLANTA — Early Sunday morning, another group of street racers stopped traffic at the 10th Street and Piedmont Road intersection so they could burn rubber on top of Atlanta’s “Rainbow Crosswalk”. They cleared the area before Atlanta police arrived but left more damage at the busy intersection just a few days after it had been cleaned up. Atlanta Police are offering a $2,000 reward for anyone with information on the street racers who have been disrupting Atlanta’s streets and leaving damage at one of the City’s better known landmarks. Last Sunday morning, APD responded to reports of street racers doing...

A Florida Highway Patrol officer is in hot water after video showing him apparently racing a Lamborghini Aventador with his police car hit Instagram this week. Shot from the inside of a second Aventador, it shows the Dodge Charger patrol car and the Italian supercar with New York tags cruising along next to each other before the drivers hit their accelerators and pull away. The Lamborghini predictably leaves the Dodge in the dust. The exact location of the race has not been revealed, but the FHP knows who the trooper is and is considering if disciplinary action is necessary.

Anaheim police Friday released new video of a suspected vehicle involved in a fiery street-racing crash that authorities say killed two 19-year-old men and inflicted life-threatening injuries on another victim, hoping it would generate new leads in the case. The new surveillance video shows a tow truck driver near the scene, so investigators are hoping to track down that driver as a witness only, said Anaheim police Sgt. Daron Wyatt. The video shows the other car suspected of taking part in the street racing to be a black Ford Mustang, not red as earlier reported. The Mustang’s driver fled the scene of...

The Los Angeles Police Department has gone and got themselves a Lamborghini. With a starting price of $182,000, the 2014 Lamborghini Gallardo is the latest edition to the LAPD's fleet of vehicles, complete with traditional black and white paint and 'To Protect and to Serve' written on the sides, according to NBC Los Angeles. And in the land of high-speed pursuits, what better way to catch those bandits flying down the 101, right? Wrong.

Australia's drag racing association says the Victorian Government must bear some responsibility for fuelling the frustrating of motor sports fans, following a riot in Melbourne's south-east. Last night, about 2,000 people took to the streets of Oakleigh to protest against the cancellation of the Easternats car racing event. They were targeting Bob Jane, the tyre company that sponsored the event. Easternats organisers say Bob Jane cancelled the event after failing to finalise contract negotiations. I may be overly sensitive on this subject but my first reaction is that these victims of a Maryland street-racing incident were unlucky, undeserving and incredibly foolish: “A car plowed into a crowd that had gathered to watch a drag race on a suburban road early Saturday, killing eight people and injuring at least five, police said. Police said the white sedan was not involved in the street race but accidentally drove into the crowd of about 50 people that had spilled onto the highway to watch two racing cars speed off. *** According to police, two cars had lined...

Is America Promoting Street Racing? The latest plague to hit home in the US isn’t SARS or Smallpox. It’s something that has actually been around for quite a while now but hasn’t been toggled with. I’m talking about Street Racing. Parents all over America are sobbing over the loss of their child because of a car accident, but I’m not talking about your usual accident on the highway that took someone’s life. I’m talking about you going 120+ MPH on your local ¼ mile straight shot street. To make it worse, just these high speed racers aren’t dying, there are...
