PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. (CBS12) — A team of sheriff's deputies "conducting an operation regarding illegal street racing" had their work cut out for them when one of the cars almost hit one of them, rammed his SUV, and led authorities on a chase.

It all went down last Saturday night, Nov. 19, in Palm Beach Gardens and at one point flew by at 76 mph above the speed limit.

Authorities followed "a group of vehicles to numerous locations” and eventually to Alternate A1A near Lighthouse Drive.

According to the arrest report, “In excess of 100 vehicles entered the parking lot of the business. [One agent] observed a black BMW, blue Dodge Charger, and red Dodge Charger engaging in burnouts and donuts with their respective vehicles. ... This reckless driving was done within close proximity of additional vehicles and pedestrian traffic within the parking lot. A passenger, later identified as [the suspect's brother], was hanging out of the front passenger window of the red Dodge Charger as it engaged in donuts within the parking lot. Due to previous cases, it is known that this driving behavior results in thousands of dollars’ worth of damage to the roadway, as it is the face by black tire marks.”

A sergeant went into the parking lot and tried to conduct a traffic stop on that red Dodge Charger but it “drove towards the exit of the parking lot off of Lighthouse Drive where [a deputy] was.

“[That deputy] had his unmarked black Chevy Tahoe with its emergency red and blue lights activated in the entrance Lane of the parking lot. ... [He was] standing near his vehicle. The red Charger drove the wrong way towards [the deputy]'s vehicle and slowed down . . .

They call them donuts everywhere, except in Idaho they are referred to as “cookies.”

I grew up there (Nampa) in the 70s and 80s. We'd generally call it cutting cookies or doing donuts. Both terms were acceptable descriptions, but cookies certainly was used more often.

“as it is the face by black tire marks”

My head hurts. I suspect this story is AI generated.

Chicago had an incident similar to this a week or two back, shots fired. Locally, I’ve seen lots of burnouts and donut marks.
