First of all, let me make my meaning plain -- Former House Representative Mark Foley is a bastard. He's a scumbag. He's a sleazy pervert. He's a disgrace. I don't care if he laid a finger on any congressional pages or not. His Instant Messages were disgusting, and he had no business using his position of power to "flirt" with underage boys (or girls, if he were so inclined). I do, however, have to ask this...

The uproar and condemnation of Florida’s Rep. Foley cuts across party lines, and across the country…but rings hollow in Massachusetts. It was revealed last week that Foley had written some sexually suggestive emails to some male pages in Congress. So far, all that is known is that he wrote the creepy emails, and that is enough for Democrats to demand an independent investigation and even Republicans to deny they know the man.

When I was a GOP activist, every election season all I heard was "We have got to beat the Democrats."
