Massachusetts Senate President Therese Murray, who had privately expressed opposition to Senator Edward M. Kennedy’s plea for a temporary appointment to any US Senate vacancy, is now open to the idea, according to a colleague, who said she has given him the green light to round up the necessary votes.

Christ Matthews just went through this long history of the Kennedy's talking alot at the end about Obama and how Ted supported him, and at the end, almost in tears, he said Barack is now the last Kennedy brother?

Sen. Robert Byrd (D-W.Va.), the only senator to have served longer than the late Sen. Edward Kennedy (D-Mass.), mourned his friend Wednesday, saying his "heart and soul weeps." Byrd said he hoped healthcare reform legislation in the Senate would be renamed in memoriam of Kennedy. "I had hoped and prayed that this day would never come," Byrd said in a statement. "My heart and soul weeps at the lost of my best friend in the Senate, my beloved friend, Ted Kennedy." Byrd's wistful statement focused on the work accomplished with Kennedy during decades together in the Senate, and called on...

Note: This post was written before news of Sen. Kennedy’s death. We extend our sympathies to the family. What is written discusses political actions and not ad hominem attacks against the late Senator. *** Kennedy is determined to control this whole health care debate and by extension this country whether he is a Senator or not. Liberal Democrats, it seems want to have their political desires met regardless of the consequences and Kennedy is just an example of that. Democrats seem to be willing to move heaven and earth for their goal of universal health care and they seem to...

You were right, Ted Kennedy Wednesday, August 26, 2009, 9:39 am By Briggs One day in 1973, in his squeaky, pickled-vocal-chords baritone Ted Kennedy filled the Senate chamber with these words: “Do we operate under a system of equal justice under law? Or is there one system for the average citizen and another for the high and mighty?” His intent was rhetorical, because the answer was, and always has been, obvious: of course there are two classes, low and high. And no other modern politician took advantage of this fact more than did the mighty “lion of the senate.” Here...

In a 1979 photo by Time’s Diana Walker, Ted Kennedy and Strom Thurmond lock horns at a Senate Judiciary Committee session. A young Kennedy aide slips into the frame, just over his boss’s shoulder. The caption doesn’t identify the aide, but it’s 41-year-old Stephen Breyer, 15 years before his appointment to the Supreme Court.

Here is video of President Barack Obama today interrupting his vacation on Martha's Vineyard to make a statement on the death of Sen. Ted Kennedy. Obama called Ted Kennedy a "singular figure in American History." He further called Kennedy "one of the greatest Senators in history." Obama said he had spoken earlier to Obama's wife Vicki to express his condolences. . . . . (Watch Video)

The worlds news organizations will not do it, the Democrats won't admit to it, even the Republicans will join in on the sycophantic praising of the man's life. Well, I propose the we start a list of all the bad and evil things Ted Kennedy has brought upon this planet while he lived. Starting with Chappaquiddick, and on through to the last piece of legislation that was bad for America, and the world. If we don't do it, it will not be done. So let's get our collective minds together and start listing all the evil this man was apart...

Here is video of MSNBC's Chris Matthews this morning gushing about Sen. Ted Kennedy as being perhaps "the greatest Senator in history." Ted Kennedy died late last night from brain cancer at the age of 77. Matthews did say Kennedy's life was a "mixed bag," and he "took a while to grow up." At the end, Matthews said that Kennedy had "turned the ball over to Barack." "Barack is the last (Kennedy) brother." . . . . . (Watch Video)

Last week came the surprising letter from Sen. Edward Kennedy (D-Mass.) urging Democratic leaders in the Massachusetts legislature to change state law and permit the governor to fill a vacancy in the U.S. Senate when and if it arises. Calling for a reversal of the law that Democratic legislators passed in '04 (when they took that very power to appoint from then-Republican Gov. Mitt Romney and mandated a "snap election" in five months) the ailing Kennedy appeared to recognize his own mortality. What has followed is an onslaught of press speculation of what will happen in the likelihood that Massachusetts...

Senator Edward M. Kennedy has asked the Massachusetts Legislature to change state law to let the governor, currently a fellow Democrat, fill vacant Senate seats. Abandoning the current system, in which voters choose, would be undemocratic, even at the request of such a respected lawmaker. With the health care battle heating up in Washington, every senator’s vote is critical. It is not hard to imagine that Mr. Kennedy, who has made national health care a high priority, wants to make sure Democrats will not lose a vote if he is unable to keep serving because of his terminal brain cancer....

Thanks Senator for holding on to that Senate seat till your last breath instead of resigning early so an election (or even an appointment) could be held. Made 9 of the last 270 votes, I hear. Talk about a full time senator! Anyway, the Howie Carr show hereby launches a Ted Kennedy memorial ping. All are invited to tune in to Howie's show weekdays 3-7 pm Eastern Time. And yeah I guess someone won the death pool. http://www.wrko.com http://www.wntk.com http://www.wcrnradio.com

He was 77. "Edward M. Kennedy, the husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle we loved so deeply, died late Tuesday night at home in Hyannis Port (Massachusetts)," the Kennedy family said in a statement. (CBS) Although Sen. Ted Kennedy had sought to expedite the process of choosing his replacement to the U.S. Senate, it appears the process will be at least three to four months away. As CBS chief political correspondent Steve Chaggaris reports, Mass. Gov. Deval Patrick must set a date for a special election to occur between 145 and 160 days from now to fill the vacancy created by Kennedy's death. The two likely dates for a special election would be on the Tuesdays that fall within this range: January 19, 2010 and January 26, 2010. Thanks to a law change in...

BOSTON (Reuters) – Senator Edward Kennedy's death marks the twilight of one of America's most fabled political families, with no heirs to the Kennedy name poised to emerge with the same mix of gravitas, ambition and celebrity. Kennedy, 77, one of the most effective lawmakers in U.S. history and the brother of assassinated President John F. Kennedy, died late on Tuesday after battling brain cancer. He died just weeks after his sister, Eunice Kennedy Shriver, who founded the Special Olympics and was a leading advocate for the mentally disabled. "There seems to be no one there to pick up the...
