Thuggery 101: Union Official, Professor Teach College Course in Violent Union Tactics

Three California unions are accusing a rival labor coalition of using "shameful" tactics to win exclusive contracts for building renewable power plants — tactics they said delay new jobs and add to each project's costs. Unions representing carpenters, laborers and operating engineers criticized California Unions for Reliable Energy for challenging construction projects on environmental grounds — then dropping objections after its main affiliate, the State Building & Construction Trades Council of California, wins lucrative contracts to supply workers. Since 2000, CURE has participated in environmental hearings for all 12 renewable energy projects proposed for the Southern California desert, filing more...

One cable from the WikiLeaks trove raises a disturbing possibility: the Obama administration’s obsession with Israeli settlements could end up undermining America’s own war on terror. Shortly before Israel announced a 10-month freeze on settlement construction last year, Germany urged Washington to threaten that absent such a moratorium, the U.S. would refuse to block a UN Security Council vote on the Goldstone Report, which accused Israel of war crimes in Gaza. U.S. officials correctly responded that this would be “counterproductive” but agreed to tell Israel “that their policy on settlements was making it difficult for their friends to hold the...

“A pistol is only good for fighting you way to a rifle.” It’s a common quote, often attributed to Jeff Cooper and other well-known tactical experts. In today’s increasingly complex battlefield, and in times of economic collapse and the shrinking legitimacy of the state, we often find that rules of thumb once taken for granted have been turned upside down. Perhaps it’s time we reconsider the tactical utility of pistols. Perhaps the biggest fallacy held among modern patriots, militia groups and survivalists is the idea of SHTF. This isn’t to say there won’t ever be SHTF type situations, but the...

Yes. You are reading the title correctly, “Israel Insults the U.S. with Go-It-Alone Tactics! Mr. Wickham does a bit of magic here. Now Israeli leader, Netanyahu, is isolated into a room by Mr. Obama who has given his ungrateful friend a list of 13 demands and leaves the room to let the Prime Minister think about them. So we are to believe that Americans should feel insulted when Mr. Netanyahu goes back home alone without capitulating to Israel’s bosom, long time friend, Barack Hussein Obama. No one but the dead, Israel’s enemies, and the unknowing in the world could expect...

After the health-care fight, we can expect the Obama administration to use the same template to pass “comprehensive immigration reform.” That is a euphemism for permanently ceasing construction of the still-incomplete border fence; institutionalizing a large guest-worker program; treating illegal residents as de facto citizens in terms of receiving earned-income credits, health care, and general entitlements; and providing virtual amnesty for 11 million illegal aliens. And what exactly is that model for passage of something that promises to be so unpopular? We know the boilerplate well after a year of health-care acrimony. First, immigration policy — like health care, and...

HOLBROOK — A local Lakeside man shot and wounded another local man when he discovered what appeared to be a burglary in process at his neighbor’s home. The incident occurred March 2 at approximately 8:30 p.m. in the 4800 block of Rim Spur in Lakeside. Deputies responding to the scene met with Gaylon Crawford, who told deputies he had been asked by his neighbor to check on his residence because an alarm had been activated indicating a possible intrusion. The neighbor/ homeowner Jim Schueller, who lives in the Valley, was not home at the time of the incident. Crawford said...

North Korea early on Friday called for an end to hostile relations with the United States, after a year marked by nuclear and missile tests and its rejection of international peace efforts. The call was made in a New Year joint editorial of several leading state North Korean newspapers, the official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said, and comes with a US Christian missionary apparently detained in the isolated country. "The fundamental task for ensuring peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and in the rest of Asia is to put an end to the hostile relationship between the DPRK...

The tactics of the Left are predictable and to date, they win the battle of the media more often than common sense. Recently, offering up Ms. Pregean as a target has provided the Left with no end of lively entertainment. It sounds a little like this; Ms. Prejean has publicly said “no” to homosexual marriage yet there seems to be pictures and film, from her past, that makes her a hypocrite. Conservatives either bow their head as though they lost another round or ignore the “tempest in a teapot” as it offers little interest to them. Isn’t everyone a little...

Let's face it, Pelosi is going to stip this language out in committee. She offered it to push the bill along the process. If the Republicans kill the Amendment they might stop the bill today. It also puts the blue dogs in even more of a quandry to vote yes or no without the abortion provisions.

Tom Donohue sits for an interview with POLITICO. CEO and President of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Tom Donahue, talks with POLITICO about his relationship with the White House, the health care debate and the Chamber's membership. Photo: John Shinkle U.S. Chamber of Commerce President Tom Donohue says a campaign by the White House and its allies to undermine his $200-million-a-year association has largely failed — and actually has helped raise even more money for its pro-business efforts. In a 75-minute interview with POLITICO, Donohue dismissed recent defections by Apple and at least four other companies, which quit over the...

WASHINGTON — White House advisers pledged on Sunday to book administration officials on Fox News despite claims by the president's inner circle that the cable network is a GOP mouthpiece whose programming “is geared toward making money.” Last week, White House communications director Anita Dunn said Fox News operates “almost as either the research arm or the communications arm of the Republican Party.” On Sunday, Rahm Emanuel, President Barack Obama's chief of staff, said, “It is not a news organization so much as it has a perspective.” In response to the criticism, Fox News executive Michael Clemente on Sunday accused...

Many of my co-workers know I'm vehemently opposed to Obama and his policies. Lately, the more liberal of my co-workers have been harping on me about how my and others' opposition to Obama and his polities is racist. I have reached my limit and I know what I'm going to do. I'm going to do what hurts liberals the most. First, I'm going to label them because they're not used to it and then I'm going to ostracize them from my personal life as they tend to feel out of place and ostracized by society anyway. Henceforth, anyone who calls...

Obama’s health care tactics just like those he used in state Senate in 2004 Accusing critics of 'fear-mongering' was tactic he used in state Senate days August 31, 2009 BY LYNN SWEET AND DAVE McKINNEY Sun-Times Washington and Springfield Bureau Chiefs WASHINGTON -- Barack Obama, deflecting criticism of his top agenda item to deal with the health care crisis, accuses opponents of "fear-mongering," telling lies and miscasting his proposal as "socialized medicine." That wasn't President Obama in recent weeks, as the health care debate has been heating up in Congress and in town halls across the country. That was then...

Master politician that he is, Barack Obama is a lousy calculator. He spectacularly misjudged the American public's appetite for a government nanny. Or maybe he miscalculated the power of his slippery tongue to sell government snake oil. His apparent willingness to abandon the attempt - for now - to nationalize the health-care industry appears to defer the Democratic first step in remaking the home of the brave and the land of the free into Little America, cutting it down to a size incapable of intimidating the likes of Switzerland or Swaziland. But only if the opposition keeps up unremitting pressure....

DETROIT, Michigan (AFP) – Former president George W. Bush defended harsh interrogation tactics used in the "war on terror" as both legal and necessary to prevent an imminent attack, local media reported Friday. The remarks came a week after former vice president Dick Cheney branded President Barack Obama as soft on terror for repudiating the tactics. In wide-ranging remarks to the Economic Club of Southwestern Michigan, Bush defended his decision to allow harsh interrogation of the terror suspect accused of ordering the September 11, 2001 attacks in the United States. Bush told the crowd of 1,500 that the techniques were...

GERDA SERAI, Afghanistan — Ever since 1st Squadron, 40th Cavalry Regiment built Patrol Base Devoe in April, life has been a little bit better around the area that Troop C controls. The base’s position on a mountaintop allows the troops to control an area that was once the launch site for frequent rocket and mortar attacks on nearby Combat Outpost Wilderness. But what seems on the surface to be an unambiguous good has actually created a new challenge for the unit. The insurgents’ abandonment of long-familiar patterns has Troop C busy working to uncover the enemy fighters’ new methods. The...
