David Jolly of St. Petersburg is poised to announce his plans to run for U.S. Senate next week, following a Florida Supreme Court ruling that could add a substantial swath of Democratic voters to his congressional district. “Congressman Jolly is seriously considering a U.S. Senate run, and is moving towards a decision and announcement early next week,” Jolly spokeswoman Sarah Bascom said. A historic Tampa cigar factory has been destroyed in a fire. Authorities say the roof and floors of the Palmetto Beach Cigar Factory collapsed in the fire which broke out shortly after midnight Sunday. The fire marshal said the building is considered a total loss. It's unclear whether anyone was inside at the time. Firefighters were not able to enter the building for safety reasons. They had the fire under control in less than two hours, but were still putting out hot spots on Sunday afternoon.

HAVANA (AP) — Cuba has allowed construction of the country's first new Catholic church in 55 years, the church said Monday. Experts said it's a sign of improving relations between the Vatican and Cuba's communist government. The church, funded by donations from Catholics in Tampa, Florida, will be built in Sandino, a citrus and coffee-growing town in the far-western province of Pinar del Rio.
