Supreme Court justice says the #MeToo movement is important, but so is due process.Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg thinks colleges and universities are violating the due process rights of students facing sexual misconduct charges. The Atlantic's Jeffrey Rosen asked the Court's second-ever female justice for her thoughts on the #MeToo movement. Unsurprisingly, Ginsburg was happy about the increased public attention being paid to the problems of sexual harassment and gender-based inequality in the workplace. But she was also concerned about protecting the due process rights of the accused—particularly on college campuses: Rosen: What about due process for the accused?...

A man in his mid-20s who graduated from Atlantic City High School is believed to be the first American member of the Islamic State terror group to be filmed beheading a prisoner, according to a report in The Atlantic magazine published Saturday. Zulfi Hoxha, whose family immigrated to the United States from Albania and formerly owned a pizzeria in Margate, is believed to have connected with another man, David Wright, through online video games possibly as early as 2010, the magazine reported. Wright put Hoxha in touch with others who then helped Hoxha travel to a part of Syria controlled...

Two new polls show President Donald Trump’s rising support among black voters, highlighting his political gains from pushing employers to hire Americans instead of lower-wage migrants. The growing support from blacks — despite furious Democratic claims of racism — could become a shocking political validation in November when Trump will face millions of upper-income Democratic voters who are angry at his “Buy American, Hire American” policies. Among black men, Trump’s “2017 average approval rating significantly exceeds his 2016 vote share,” admitted a January 11 article in the Atlantic by author Ronald Brownstein. “23 percent of black men approved of Trump’s...

“I don’t know how to say it any more direct: If nothing changes, Trump’s gonna have to use the military option, because time is running out.” ~snip~ “I would say there’s a three in 10 chance we use the military option,” Graham predicted in an interview. If the North Koreans conduct an additional test of a nuclear bomb—their seventh—“I would say 70 percent.” ~snip~ "There are a couple ways for this to end: The Chinese could kill the guy if they wanted to, or they could just stop oil shipments [to North Korea], which would bring [Kim Jong Un’s] economy...

Conservative news outlets have been vocal in their skepticism toward colleges and universities while the liberal media has remained complicit in their overall approval. Now, as a more progressive generation of millennials finds itself increasingly unemployed or underemployed, it seems as though the left might be turning against academia. Last week, the Atlantic, one of the Left’s longest-enduring supporters, published a blistering critique of today’s college system from a tenured George Mason University professor. In the article, Bryan Caplan, a libertarian-leaning professor, decries higher education as “wasteful” and “irrelevant.” Caplan brilliantly points out what employers have known for years. “[D]espite...

David Frum, former President George W. Bush speechwriter, appeared on CNN's Reliable Sources with Brian Stelter today to discuss media in the age of Trump. The current Atlantic senior editor started off his monologue by making the following claim. “The mistakes are precisely the reason people should trust the media. Astronomers make mistakes all the time because science is a process of discovery of truth. Astrologers never make mistakes or at least they never own up to them because what they are offering is a closed system of ideology and propaganda," Frum told Stelter. On the surface, this sounds accurate. Astronomers...

The mainstream media has been busy over the past year engineering the narrative that the removal from office via impeachment of President Donald Trump is almost inevitable. Although they have had a few bumps on the road to this possible future, which caused them to temporarily switch to removal from office via the 25th Amendment fantasy, their impeachment dream is back on track. This concept reached a fevered pitch last week on Friday when many liberals went into a state of ecstasy, most notably Joy Behar, over the fake news report by Brian Ross of ABC News about "candidate" Trump contacting the Russians which...

A new memoir implicates the Filet-O-Fish in a 2,400-calorie dinner. “Trump’s appetite seems to know no bounds when it comes to McDonald’s, with a dinner order consisting of two Big Macs, two Fillet-O-Fish, and a chocolate malted.” This 2,400-calorie meal is among the details in a forthcoming book by Trump’s former campaign manager Corey Lewandowski and aid David Bossie, as described in a preview by The Washington Post. A dinner of that size would offer caloric energy for a full day. The 3,400 milligrams of sodium more than doubles the American Heart Association’s recommendation of 1,500 milligrams per day. The...

The journalist Joe Klein, a leading Bill Clinton chronicler in the 1990s, said Tuesday that he was an “enabler” for defending the then-president. Klein said in an interview with the NPR show On Point that he didn’t think Democrats today would stand by Clinton the way they did in the 1990s as the cultural landscape has shifted on sexual misconduct. “I must confess to having been a Clinton enabler during that time,” Klein told guest host Jane Clayson. “In that I defended him, and we all knew that he was a cad. There's no question about that. But it was...

The Atlantic, a once-great magazine, has determined that the total eclipse of the sun due to occur on Monday will fail to affect enough black people. The Atlantic’s very lengthy essay on the failure of the eclipse to occur where a sufficient number of black people reside is entitled “American Blackout.†It clocks in at a remarkable 4,544 words and does not appear to be satire. Concerning “the Great American Eclipse,†Brooklyn Law School professor Alice Ristroph writes in the rapidly deteriorating magazine, “there live almost no black people†“along most of its path.†The Atlantic’s longwinded law professor assures readers that...

Last week, The Atlantic rendered a great service to those of us who contend that America is in the midst of a civil war between the right and the left. It provided a smoking gun -- actually, the gunshot itself -- to those of us who contend that the left (never to be confused with liberals) is intent on dismantling Western civilization. It published articles by two left-wing writers, one by Peter Beinart titled "The Racial and Religious Paranoia of Trump's Warsaw Speech," and one by its national correspondent, James Fallows, written on the same theme as Beinart's. The subject...

Accused of being Nixonian and trying to bury an investigation of ties to Russia, the president meets and greets Russian officials and Nixon’s most famous aide. Imagine you are the president of the United States. Now, imagine you have just fired the director of the FBI, for a nonsensical rationale. You are being accused of firing the director in order to stifle an investigation into your campaign’s ties to Russia, in a move a wide range of critics are calling Nixonian. What do you do?If you are Donald Trump, the answer is clear: You make sure the first people you’re seen...

The United States is one of the richest countries in the world. It is also one of the most unequal. As a report released today shows, the U.S. ranks 23 out of 30 developed nations in a measure known as the “inclusive development index,” which factors in data on income, health, poverty, and sustainability. The index comes from the World Economic Forum, whose annual summit is taking place in Davos this week. It is a rather comprehensive measure of inequality, and the fact that the U.S. ranks so poorly is a sign of the country’s dramatic wealth concentration. Of all...

Set to appear in the January/February 2017 print issue, the responses published ranged from liberal authors to TV hosts to average readers of the monthly magazine and the people cited spanned nearly the duration of human history. . . . Ronald Reagan. Tens of thousands of gay men were wiped off the map simply because he refused to speak, much less act. What’s worse than ignoring a national health crisis while you stuff your face full of jelly beans and your wife reads her horoscope in the next room?

UPDATE: Shortly after this report was published Politico contacted The Daily Caller to say: “This tweet is completely unacceptable and is an obvious violation of POLITICO standards. Julia Ioffe is no longer with the publication.” Ioffe is joining The Atlantic in January but this tweet accelerated the timeline of her departure from Politico “immediately,” according to a Politico source. Julia Ioffe, a former contributing writer for Politico Magazine who will be joining The Atlantic as a reporter in January, suggested Wednesday on Twitter that President-elect Donald Trump is having sex with his daughter Ivanka.

WASHINGTON -- Frustrated over a stall in an arms sale to Saudi Arabia, Obama once questioned the necessity of maintaining Israel's qualitative military edge in the region, former Defense Secretary Leon Panetta said on Monday. Panetta was confirming a report from Atlantic writer Jeffrey Goldberg, who attributed the claim to him in an article on Obama's foreign policy doctrine published last March. The former Pentagon chief said the White House, at the time, was deeply concerned that Israel was preparing to unilaterally strike Iran. Simultaneously, the administration was also hoping to complete with Riyadh a significant sale of fighter jets....

Clinton-Linked Israel Basher Max Blumenthal Disparages, Defames the Late Elie Wiesel; Says Holocaust Survivor ‘Should Not Be Honored’ As the world began to mourn the passing of renowned author, Holocaust survivor, Nobel Prize recipient and Algemeiner Tribute Committee Chairman Elie Wiesel on Saturday, with heart-felt eulogies and personal tributes from heads of state to friends, a famous Israel-basher took the opportunity to disparage and defame the intellectual icon. Max Blumenthal — senior writer for AlterNet and author of Goliath and The 51 Day War: Ruin and Resistance in Gaza, a virulently anti-Israel book about Operation Protective Edge in the summer...

I am not even going to attempt to excerpt this. It is too long, the points are too nuanced and after reading it for half an hour I am only about halfway through it. I can't say that I agree with every observation so far but I will say that this is a very serious and sober read, and much of it has the ring of truth. I would like to hear what others think of this. But please take some time and read it through first.

Already, Clinton has claimed international affairs as a key battleground against Trump, devoting her first major address of the general-election campaign to the topic. And she’s done so for understandable reasons. Foreign affairs is arguably the realm in which she can draw the sharpest contrast with Trump in terms of qualifications. In her national-security speech last week, Clinton noted that she visited 112 countries as secretary of state. Foreign affairs is also where the stakes of the election seem highest; in her speech, Clinton conjured images of a volatile Trump in the Situation Room, blustering through matters of war and...

A Psychologist Analyzes Donald Trump's Personality ...rambling psychobabble...Summary: Who, really, is Donald Trump? What’s behind the actor’s mask? I can discern little more than narcissistic motivations and a complementary personal narrative about winning at any cost. It is as if Trump has invested so much of himself in developing and refining his socially dominant role that he has nothing left over to create a meaningful story for his life, or for the nation. It is always Donald Trump playing Donald Trump, fighting to win, but never knowing why.
