Calif. Man Convicted of Throwing Wife Off Cliff ASSOCIATED PRESS December 18, 2009 TORRANCE, Calif. (AP) -- A 28-year-old man accused of throwing his new wife off a Southern California cliff has been convicted of murder. A Los Angeles Superior Court jury deliberated about a day before finding Jason Manai of Torrance guilty of first-degree murder on Thursday. Prosecutors alleged that Manai threw Julie Rosas off a Rancho Palos Verdes cliff in July 2005 because she wanted to annul their marriage. The two had been married for 13 days.

A Torrance man has filed a federal civil rights lawsuit against the city for its long-standing policy of not issuing concealed weapons permits. Also named in the suit were Torrance Police Chief John Neu and all seven members of the City Council. The chief, mayor and city attorney all declined to comment on the lawsuit they were served with Tuesday. David W. Spears, 43, alleges the policy is in "willful disregard of the law" and seeks to overturn it. A crowd of people put their hands over their hearts, saluted and thrust flags in the air as the slow procession of Cpl. Yesterday, a very moving memorial service was held in Torrance, California, for one of our own. Joseph Anzack, Jr., 20, one of the soldiers recently kidnapped in Iraq and found dead a few days later, returned home for the last time. Joe graduated from South High School in Torrance in 2005. His memorial service was held there just two years later.
