WASHINGTON (AP) — A team at the Smithsonian Institution has scanned President Barack Obama to create the first 3D printed portrait of a sitting president. Digital imaging specialists recently created a 3D printed bust and life mask of Obama, which will become part of his presidential depictions in the National Portrait Gallery collection. Both were shown Wednesday at a gathering of inventors, entrepreneurs and students at the White House.
  • A Cruel Internet Bully Called This Boy With Down Syndrome Ugly, His Mom’s Reaction is Priceless

For children growing up, there is little that cuts to the emotional core like a bully calling them “ugly.” It’s a crass attack that usually reveals more about the insecurities of the bully than the beauty of the child being bullied. But it leaves a lasting impression for young children. Self-esteem issues, the loss of self-worth and a degradation of the beauty God gave each unique human being he created. Overall, it’s a loss of the celebration of the beauty of life. quinnAlthough he’s not pro-life on abortion, Jon Bon Jovi’s lyrics to the song “Ugly” are a good reminder...
  • What Names are left for Chelsea's Baby?

Poor Chelsea. There aren't many untainted names left for her to name her baby. I think if it's a boy, she will be left with more options. For a girl, there are just so many names that dredge up bad memories. Monica is obviously out. Jennifer, no matter the spelling, simply wouldn't be appropriate. Barbra, Markie, Elizabeth, none of these appropriate. Cute baby names like Dolly or Sally won't even work. What about the great classics, like Kathleen, Linda, or Deborah? Very much out. Paula? Don't even think about it. Even some of the more ethnic and unusual names like...

Every time I hear someone say that feminism is about validating every choice a woman makes I have to fight back vomit. Do people really think that a stay at home mom is really on equal footing with a woman who works and takes care of herself? There’s no way those two things are the same. It’s hard for me to believe it’s not just verbally placating these people so they don’t get in trouble with the mommy bloggers. Having kids and getting married are considered life milestones. We have baby showers and wedding parties as if it’s a huge...

Crowning achievement in Obama's comprehensive  international humiliation of the United States is here- good reason not to smile Designed by Ralph Lauren, the opening-cermony uniforms released today are garish, undignified, and downright embarrassing- or am I silly for somehow expecting them expecting to look like impressive grown-ups? To top it off, he's got 'RL' on every single item, and the sweater says 'Polo' rather than 'USA'... Don't forget the goofy hat... ecouterre   InHabitat   Freshness   h/t Michelle Fields

Women would do a better job than men of solving the current government stalemate, Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.) said on Monday—because “a woman doesn’t want to ruin the person on the other side of the aisle or the table.” … Why not put Sarah Palin in the room, joked Rep. Peter King (R-N.Y.), who was interviewed along with Wasserman Schultz. “You know, I would argue that even if Sarah Palin were in the room, that we could find a way to get to yes, because that’s usually women’s goal,” Wasserman Schultz replied. …
  • There IS such a thing as ‘beauty sleep’: Researchers say snoring makes you look old, ugly and dopey

Getting your beauty sleep can really improve your looks—and snoring can have the opposite effect, according to researchers. A study into sleep apnea—a condition marked by snoring and breathing interruptions—has shown that people with the condition appeared less attractive, youthful and alert than restful sleepers. Sufferers who were treated for the condition also appeared more attractive—with two thirds of the patients in the study being rated more highly in photos taken after treatment than before. …

Was the MTV performance meant to be repellent rather than enticing? An older generation used to call the boredom of bad habits “reaching rock bottom”; the present variant perhaps is “jumping the shark” — that moment when the tiresome gimmicks no longer work, and the show is over. In a moral sense, Miley Cyrus reached that tipping point for America, slapping us into admitting that most of our popular icons are crass, talentless bores, and that our own tastes, which created them, lead nowhere but to oblivion. After all, what does an affluent and leisured culture do when it has...

..... But upon Helen Thomas’ death, TV show host Mika Brzezinski announced on MSNBC that Helen Thomas was her “role model.” CBS News decided to just change history and say that Helen Thomas said that the Jews should go back to “Europe.” CBS erased the word “Germany.” President Obama lauded Helen Thomas as a “true pioneer,” ignoring her vile anti-Jewish words that had her thrown out of his house. Newspaper obituaries trivialized her bigotry, characterizing it as a small controversy stemming from her feistiness, and newscasters’ dimples’ grinned, “Oh that Helen, ha-ha.” While every news source and the U.S. Justice...

Via Global Post: One of Indonesia’s most notorious hardline Muslim clerics has issued a jailhouse proclamation to his faithful: feel free to mimic the coordinated attacks on America’s Libyan embassy in Indonesia. There is still speculation as to whether those attacks, which killed U.S. envoy J. Christopher Stevens, were provoked by the poorly made, anti-Islam “Innocence of Muslims” video posted on YouTube. But Abu Bakar Bashir, a cheerleader for violent jihad still in prison for organizing the 2002 bombings in Bali, is clear in stating that the film must be answered with violent reprisals. In an interview with Indonesian outlet “Voice of al-Islam,”...

For some so-called progressives in Wisconsin, the threat posed by Gov. Scott Walker's policy limiting the collective-bargaining powers of some public employees has justified almost any response. Democratic lawmakers fled the state rather than allow a vote on Walker's proposal. Some teachers and other public employees abandoned their jobs to protest in the streets. Some doctors violated ethics standards by issuing medical excuses for protesting teachers who walked out on students. Unions threatened boycotts against businesses that declined to publicly side with organized labor. AFL-CIO officials equated the cause of comfortable and well-paid unionized employees with the work of Martin...

Ginger White, who today announced that she had a thirteen-year affair with Herman Cain, was the defendant in a libel suit this year. A judge ruled in favor of the plaintiff, Kimberly Bay, and stated that Ms. White had falsely libeled Ms. Bay. Ms. White reportedly lost the suit because she did not even bother responding to the case. Ms. Bay had also sought a temporary stalking protective order against Ms. White, citing harassing emails, texts, and defamation of character. This case, however, was dismissed. When asked about the libel suit in her interview with Fox Five, and why she...

In the three years since Kosovo, urged on by the United States, declared its unilateral independence, there has been no final resolution of this long-festering wound in the heart of the Balkans. After the expulsion of the Serbian military from Kosovo in 1999 there was a systematic purging of the non-Albanian population and a rampage of revenge killing, and destruction. In March, 2004, the Albanian mobs burned or dynamited more than 204 Christian churches and monasteries - some of them heritage structures dating back to the 14th century. This veritable orgy of devastation was accomplished under the watchful eyes of...
