The American left must be disappointed this morning to learn that the suspect in the failed Times Square bombing is not the longed-for "Caucasian male" right wing extremist. Faisal Shahzad, a naturalized American citizen of Pakistani heritage registered Democrat in the state of Connecticut , most likely has never attended a tea party, and so far as we know is not on record opposing ObamaCare. Mayor Michael Bloomberg says New York City "will not tolerate any bias" following the arrest of a U.S. citizen from Pakistan in the Times Square car bombing attempt. Bloomberg said Tuesday that also applies to potential backlash against Muslim New Yorkers. The mayor said there are "a few bad apples" among any groups. He also cited New York's long history of accepting cultures from the around the world.

Brian Maloney gives us this entry for the Someone Left the Irony On Department, in which Contessa Brewer tells Stephanie Miller that she’s really unhappy that she couldn’t use the Times Square bombing attempt to prove Tea Party “bigotry.” Never mind that this clip shows the bigotry of Brewer in relation to conservatives — that all of the opponents of Barack Obama and the Democrats are somehow the equivalent of the Hutaree militia in Michigan. Megyn Kelly believes Holder is entitled to have civilian trials for GITMO detainees. This is flat WRONG. While those detained as enemy combatants are entitled to the writ of habeas corpus to contest their designation as "enemy combatants" in civilian courts per 5/4 SC vote in Boumediene v. Bush, they are to be tried under the Military Commissions Act of 2006, so long as the procedures are analogous to the rules applicable to courts-martial under the Uniform Code of Military Justice per 5/3 vote in Hamdan v. Rumsfeld (with CJ Roberts not participating).

BRASILIA, Brazil – Brazil vowed Wednesday not to "bow down" to gathering international pressure to impose new economic penalties on Iran over its nuclear program if further negotiations might be fruitful.
