In 1986, the winning contestant of the Miss USA contest (Christy Fichtner) and the 8 Miss USA runner ups went on a USO tour. As I understand it, this tour took them to the Mediterranean. Two days ago I had the pleasure of attending a benefit concert for the USO at a neighborhood bar in the East Village called Billy Hurricane’s. As you can see by the pictures posted below, the chief attraction that night was the Liberty Bells. Former President George W. Bush and his wife, Laura, made a surprise visit to U.S. troops this afternoon. They showed up at the USO in the Dallas-Fort Worth airport.
