The Commander –in-Chief of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States, Richard Eubank has taken an unprecedented action of dissolving the VFW PAC. In a letter dated October 18, 2010, he said “Meanwhile, under the authority granted to me as Commander-in-Chief in section 619 of the VFW National By-Laws and under section 620 of the Manual of Procedure, I am withdrawing all PAC appointments effective October 15, 2010. Accordingly, I’m asking the VFW national council for a vote of “no confidence” in the VFW PAC

One can see the Tea Parties, and the protests of VFW members, as a reaction to the Washington culture's failure to address our collective problems of collective action. The recent fight within the VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars) gives one hope for the future of democracy. It shows that Americans still have the fiber and sense to turn away from pursuit of their particular interests in favor of supporting our collective constitutional interest in making the system function. The VFW, an organization of military veterans who have served overseas, proclaims its purpose as: “Simply put, the VFW strives to do good...

The names Nancy Pelosi and Barbara Boxer don't immediately convey the message "Support our troops." Yet somehow these leftist Democrats and other questionable characters made it onto the Veterans of Foreign Wars Political Action Committee's (VFW-PAC) 2010 list of election endorsements. In response to the scandal, VFW national Commander Richard L. Eubank sacked the entire PAC board. In a letter to VFW members issued Monday, Mr. Eubank, a former Marine and decorated Vietnam veteran, said, "It is now evident to most of the VFW leadership, both National and especially the departments, that the VFW has been subjected to extreme negative...

It seems the VFW is doing what it can to ameliorate the VFW-PAC situation. It's a bit sad more can't be done, but there it is.

The board of directors of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Political Action Committee will decide late Wednesday or early Thursday whether to rescind its midterm endorsements, which have sparked a revolt among members. Tuesday night, VFW Commander-in-Chief Richard L. Eubank and two other top officers asked VFW PAC to pull its current picks, saying the process "unintentionally provided favoritism to the incumbents." "It is now evident it was unfairly skewed," Eubank wrote in a letter to VFW’s 1.6 million members and published on the group’s website. The VFW PAC, which operates independently of the veterans affairs group, is currently working...

"U.S. Senator Paul Wellstone's speculated third run for the Senate precipitated a lot of discussion in our home a year or so ago. The conclusion I reached was: I liked his stands on education, his support of human rights, his thinking on social security and his support on health care. Shortly thereafter, we ran into Sen. Wellstone and his family at a restaurant in St. Paul. I told him of my support for his third term in the Senate, if he decided to run. Later, he graciously came to our table to meet my family. We all encouraged him to...
