When Media Matters can’t find evidence of any “right wing media misinformation” – you know, the stuff that they’re supposed to be correcting which affords them the ability to claim tax-exemption – they do the next best thing: They make stuff up. At around 3pm Eastern on Monday, July 11th – a few hours after both President Obama and Speaker Boehner had both concluded press conferences signaling they were meeting to continue the negotiations – the Soros-funded smear factory posted an article titled, “Right-Wing Media Figures Pushed Boehner To Abandon Talks.” Prominent media conservatives such as Sarah Palin and Rush...

International music sensations Coldplay made headlines in Israel on Wednesday by passively endorsing a musical initiative by group OneWorld, called "Freedom for Palestine." Coldplay, who posted the music video for the "Freedom for Palestine" single on their Facebook page, took no part in the production but their Internet promotion nonetheless immediately caught the attention of major Jewish and Israeli media outlets. (Snip) Coldplay fan expressed predictably polar opinions of the band's foray into politics. While some fans praised the band's use of their fame to promote the Palestinian cause, others were decidedly disturbed by the move.

The Centers for Medicaid and Medicare (CMS), under enormous public pressure, proposed that Provenge, a Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved treatment for prostate cancer, be covered by insurance following a controversial “review.” A final decision on the issue is expected to be published 60 days after the public comment period for the proposed decision has ended. On the same day as the CMS decision, Judicial Watch released hundreds of pages of documents from the Obama Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) detailing how and why the review was instituted. And here’s one of our major finds: While the...

The Federal Times calls it a “steel cage match” in which “two wonks enter, one wonk leaves.” Congressional hearings are never that exciting, but Wednesday’s House Oversight Committee hearing on federal pay does promise some spirited debate. At issue is how the federal government pays its civilian workers—and, more importantly, whether it pays them too much. Leaders of the Office of Personnel Management and National Treasury Employees Union will confront critics of federal pay for the first time in public. Those critics – “in the red corner” as the Federal Times puts it – are Heritage’s James Sherk and Andrew...

People have always used the saying, “leave your personal life at home.” Well if this one emigration officer would have listened to that saying he may still have a job. Reports show that an emigration officer was fired after he tried to stick his wife on a watch list of people banned from boarding flights into Britain. Apparently the man did this in an attempt to get rid of his wife. After his wife left the country to fly to Pakistan to see family, he put her on the terrorist watch list. Thus, for the past three years, she has...

According to an official estimate by the Obama Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), at least 222 companies and unions have received waivers from Obamacare so far. Yet, as this number continues to soar, HHS refuses to explain to the American people how decisions are being made regarding which organizations receive a waiver and which do not. One certainly cannot find any explanation in the Obamacare law itself. The Obama administration did not anticipate (despite repeated warnings) how much chaos would be created by the requirements of their massive healthcare overhaul. And so they have been forced to resort...

It’s been continuing to single out the most humanitarian state in the Middle East for unwarranted criticism, of course. NGO Monitor just released a new analysis of the activities of Human Rights Watch over the past year and found that the organization continued to aim its ire at Israel while ignoring some of the world’s worst human rights abusers. Here’s a brief summary of the findings: • In 2010, HRW published 51 documents on “Israel and the Occupied Territories,” more than on any other country in the Middle East. Compare that to the organization’s research on some of the most...

Friends of Israel have long fumed over what they felt was the human rights community’s disproportionate and unfair criticism of the Jewish state: Major rights organizations typically portray Israel as among the cruelest of nations, while this planet’s actual dictatorships and tyrannies get wrist slaps. (snip) In October, Robert L. Bernstein, HRW’s founder and a former chairman, blasted his own organization in The New York Times for obsessively focusing on Israel, while ignoring authoritarian Arab and Iranian regimes and terrorist organizations like Hezbollah and Hamas.

Anniversaries are normally festive occasions. But the general mood at the 20th annual School of the Americas (SOA) Watch protest at Fort Benning, Georgia was closer to a death knell than a milestone. It used to be a significant event of the Catholic Left. At its height a few years ago, more than 15,000 gathered to protest the School of the Americas, now renamed the Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation (WHINSEC).The event still attracts a broad cross-section of leftist, dissident Catholic groups and causes, from drug legalization, abortion, and homosexual “marriage” to Liberation Theology and women’s ordination. However, the...

John Allen looks at the background of Pope Benedict's coming trip to Fatima, Portugal. He notes that the five foreign trips the Pope has scheduled for this year-- to Malta, Portugal, Cyprus, Great Britain, and Spain-- "are almost laid out in ascending order of difficulty." Benedict in Portugal: A different crisis, secularism, and 'Marian Cool' As fate would have it, Pope Benedict XVI's five foreign trips in 2010 are almost laid out in ascending order of difficulty. Last month's weekend stop in Malta, arguably the most Catholic society on earth, amounted to the warm-up act, while next week's four-day swing...
