Supporters say it enhances security aboard passenger jets, but critics say it is little more than government-sponsored voyeurism for Transportation Security Administration workers. The dispute is over the new enhanced airport security screening procedures that offer a choice of either a nude, full-body image X-ray scan or a hands-on-all-parts pat-down by a federal agent. And the controversy could be coming to a head. The Air Transport Association of America says it expects 24 million people to fly during the Thanksgiving holiday period, and an online campaign is urging everyone who flies the day before Thanksgiving – usually one of the...

"I think they're way too independent. They just shouldn't have this power," Paul, a longtime Fed critic, said in an interview with Reuters. "Up until recently it has been modest but now it's totally out of control."

The TSA chose Meg McLain for special screening. They wanted her to go through the new porno-scanners. When she opted out, TSA agents raised an enormous ruckus. When she asked some question about what they planned to do to her, they flipped out. TSA agents yelled at her, handcuffed her to a chair, ripped up her ticket, called in 12 local Miami cops and finally escorted her out of the airport. Listen to her story as she told it on radio show Free Talk Live last night. Things are truly getting scary.

While America was talking about the election returns, the Supreme Court was talking about tax credits to fund Christian schools in Arizona. It looks like this might be yet another 5-4 decision on religious liberty, and it’s not clear which way the Court will go. On Wednesday, November 3—the day after the conservative tsunami resulting in Republican victories across America—the U.S. Supreme Court heard arguments in Arizona Christian School Tuition Organization v. Winn. Arizona allows a $500 dollar-for-dollar tax credit if taxpayers choose to give some money to student tuition organizations (STOs) that fund all manner of private schools, including...

From FSP early mover Mike Ruff in Manchester: To all my friends and acquaintances who are struggling for Freedom elsewhere, and see little progress: As many of you may be aware, I have long since become disillusioned with the political process, and prefer to do my pro-Freedom activism in the social and economic realm. That being said, and while I encourage people to do the same, I don’t denigrate the efforts of those principled activists who remain in the political front of the battle–I have said for years that the correct strategy for winning this fight is to push on...

DIVERSITY vs. E PLURIBUS UNUM Diversity. What a pleasant sounding word. I see colorful posters bearing the word placed in prominence around the office where I work. I often see the word applied in noble motto: “Strength in Diversity” or “Celebrate Diversity”. What a lovely sentiment. What could be wrong with that? I am a German American, whose original German-born ancestor arrived in the United States of America in 1853 following the death of his first wife. I’m quite sure his life in Germany was shattered. He came to America destitute, with small children in tow. He remarried an Ohio...

It’s a very subtle ploy, that statement, ”already making more money than most will earn in a lifetime.” Does it make you feel good? Glad for those billionaires, and proud of their enterprenurial spirit? Or does it make you feel slightly envious that these young kids will make more than you’ll ever see in your life? Yeah, me too. The ongoing repetition (only slightly unpalatable in single instances) permeates society these days. It’s in the press, on television, online… all the time. Captialism is evil; tax the rich; make the rich pay their fair share; they’ll make more than you’ll...

It's a question I'm frequently asked these days. I'm far from an expert on the Tea Party. Accordingly, my answer is limited to stating that there is a division among Tea Party members, with some tending towards an interventionist position and others tending towards isolationism. I avoid opining on what the breakdown is. One way to get at the question is to look at the positions taken by prominent Tea Party candidates in this year's election. Scott Conroy of Real Clear Politics has undertaken that analysis. He finds the same division that I posited exists within the rank-and-file. Marco Rubio's...

U.S. Rep. Ron Paul, R-Texas, will campaign for Republican legislative candidates and speak at the University of Iowa Friday, Oct. 29, at 7:45 p.m. The group organizing Paul’s speech, the university’s Young Americans for Liberty and Campaign for Liberty, are billing the event as “fueling speculation that he may challenge other Republican presidential hopefuls in Iowa’s 2012 primary.” “Dr. Paul’s 2008 presidential campaign threw him into the national spotlight as a different kind of Republican,” said Ani DeGroot, president of the Young Americans for Liberty chapter. “He has called for an end to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, a...
