MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — A national gay rights organization sued the state of West Virginia over its ban on same-sex marriages Tuesday, declaring its Defense of Marriage Act a violation of the 14th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. New York-based Lambda Legal filed the complaint in U.S. District Court in Huntington on behalf of three same-sex couples and the child of one couple. It filed a similar lawsuit last month challenging Virginia’s ban on gay marriages. In the West Virginia case, Lambda Legal argues the state’s ban unfairly discriminates against same-sex couples and their children. The organization says its clients are...

It seems our efforts to shine the light on the abortion industry in West Virginia has not been well received by those in the spotlight. Our goal is to protect women and children from the harms of abortion. Sure, we’d like nothing more than to see abortion ended in this “wild, wonderful” state of ours. But as long as it is legal, we want to make sure women are protected and given the best medical care possible. Oddly, the abortion industry thinks such reasonable standards are unnecessary. It all started when Tia Gravely filed a lawsuit against the largest abortion...

Attorney General Morrisey has initiated an effort that requires the help of all of us. He believes that the women of West Virginia deserve to be protected by state regulation and inspection of abortion clinics. He has called for public comment on this issue, and he needs to hear from the pro-life majority in the state. While we might occasionally feel that we have no influence on the pro-life policy of the state, now is a time that we really can make a difference. The politicians of our state need to know that we are here and that we care....
