All along Young America’s Foundation has said that college campuses nationwide seem to be less and less objective—well now even Michael Bloomberg agrees. At a commencement ceremony at Harvard yesterday, Bloomberg stated that colleges are supposed to be a place where students learn how to think, not where they are told what to think. Just last week, Young America’s Foundation released its 22nd annual “Commencement Speakers Survey” which reveals that 43 liberal speakers and only 9 conservatives are scheduled to speak or have already spoken at this year’s commencement ceremonies at America’s top 100 colleges. Campuses are using commencement addresses...

I am a historian who is writing a book about the conservative movement in the 1960s and early 1970s. If you were active back then and want to talk to me, I'd be really interested in your memories and views of the movement. I am especially interested in any first-person narratives of the 1969 YAF convention which sounds like it was very memorable. My email address is sethoffenbach@gmail.com or seth.offenbach@bcc.cuny.edu Thank you for any help and I will obviously be willing to offer you any verification that I am a legitimate historian if you need.

A Christian university blocked conservative students from forming a Young Americans for Freedom chapter on campus last week.Azusa Pacific, a private Christian university near Los Angeles, California, took issue with “divisive language” on the website of YAF, an advocacy group for college-aged conservatives. University officials also feared that replacing the existing conservative student club with a YAF-affiliated one would limit membership options for students.A spokesperson clarified that while students were free to associate with YAF, no official relationship would be permitted to exist. “They can associate with YAF, we’re just not wanting a formal chapter on our campus,” said Rachel...

Editor's Note: This column was authored by Dr. Stephen Smoot, of Young America's Foundation. Newsweek rhetorically asked America recently, “Why are Obama’s critics (read conservatives) so dumb?” We have to admit that we do fall short of our erudite betters on the Left in the field of expression. Why can’t conservatives rise to their enlightened level of discourse? What is most galling to me is the fact that we cannot even come up with our own witty attacks. Our most visible conservative has to stoop to copying our intellectual betters! Such as when David Letterman referred to Sarah Palin...

“Rep. Paul's refusal to support our nation’s military and national security interests border on treason" In a statement evocative of William F. Buckley, Jr. when he excoriated Robert Welch and the John Birch Society as being “far removed from reality and common sense”, the Young Americans for Freedom, a conservative/libertarian youth group founded in 1960, has given Ron Paul (Crank – TX) the boot from its board of directors. “Rep. Congressman Ron Paul (R-TX) was booted off the Advisory Board of the conservative group Young Americans for Freedom (YAF) over what the group calls his "delusional and disturbing alliance with the fringe Anti-War movement." According to a post at the organization's web site: “It is a sad day in American history when a one-time conservative-libertarian stalwart has fallen more out of touch with America’s needs for national security than the current feeble and appeasing administration,” said YAF’s Senior National Director Jordan Marks. The very moment that Ron Paul won the straw poll, I was handed a press release from Young Americans for Freedom: "NATION'S OLDEST CONSERVATIVE/LIBERTARIAN ACTIVIST GROUP EXPELS RON PAUL FROM ADVISORY BOARD." YAF's senior national director Aaron Marks was quoted saying Paul was "clearly off his meds," and that YAF was "more aligned with Obama" than Paul on national security. I walked outside to celebrating members of Paul's Young Americans for Liberty. They interrupted hugs and high-fives to have a laugh at this. "Why be this inflammatory?" laughed Jeff Frazee, executive director of YAL. "It's a publicity stunt, but it's...

I hesitate writing anything about Ron Paul on this site and elsewhere because his rabid supporters become unhinged if you offer the tiniest bit of criticism about their hero. In this, they are reminiscent of Obamabots. All I can say is thank goodness there aren't enough of them to get Ron Paul elected to anything except the House seat he currently enjoys holding. His presidential ambitions are a running joke, seeing as he got about 2% of the primary vote in 2008. And the GOP is not ready for his crudely isolationist foreign policy ideas nor his radical libertarian economic...

YAF has a list of speakers that they offer on their website, and if a student group decides to host one of the speakers, the students will pay—often thousands of dollars—to bring a conservative figure to their campus. It seems a lot of college professors didn’t like my column last week about academic socialism. Though conspicuously short on details, a University of Oregon professor declared the analogy between grade redistribution and wealth redistribution “really dumb.” (This should show you what sophisticated thinkers most of these professors are: they call everything they disagree with “dumb.”) But I think their real problem is the fact that the YAF video contest made students rethink the Marxist claptrap they’ve been force-fed during their college years.

Chicago Freepers: On Saturday, March 14, 3:00 I will be speaking to the Young America's Foundation convention at the Crowne Plaza O'Hare Hotel. They have asked me to do a booksigning after the last speaker concludes at 5:00. My topic will be "48 Liberal Lies About American History." I do not know what the registration entails, but the other speakers include John Ashcroft, Tim Pawlenty, Tom Tancredo, and Burton Folsom. Also, there is a good likelihood that I will be speaking at the Chicago Homeschool Convention on August 8 at the Schaumburg Convention Center. Don't have a speaking time yet.

Given the requests for Young America’s Foundation’s recommendations, and to aid in making the right decision, we are proud to release our fifth annual...

Banned conservative speakers, stolen votes, assaults on religious liberty, gay English classes, and forbidden Thanksgiving & Christmas celebrations Political correctness ran amuck in our nation’s school system this past year, and Young America’s Foundation has once again compiled our “best of the worst” academic abuses for 2008. From “free speech zones” to transgendered speakers at military academies, the following list may make you both laugh and cry in the same breath. That probably isn’t too surprising, however, since we are talking about academia after all… 1. The free speech “zone.” A student at Yuba College in California was sent an...

Islamo-Fascism Awareness Week Returns to GW Posted Wednesday, October 15 2008 12:00:22 am By Hannah Ringheim Staff Writer Despite high controversy surrounding last year’s Islamo-Fascism Awareness Week, Young America’s Foundation (YAF) has defended their decision to hold the event again this week. The intent of the week, according to a press release by YAF, is focused on the condemnation of radical Islamic regimes and educating students about “this omnipresent form of radicalism” that YAF said uses religion to justify political violence. Last year, a group of students affiliated with the group Students for Conservativo-Fascism Awareness caused national controversy by protesting...

This is Anne Korin speaking yesterday to the Young America's Foundation. Did anyone else see this speech? I found it very persuasive. While she doesn't oppose drilling for oil as far as I know, she makes a very strong case that it won't solve our problem. I know that cuts against the grain right now. All the momentum is for drilling, and that's fine, but I ask you all to listen to this speech and see what you think. Here are the links: Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 I think the person uploading this stuff is still...

Star Parker is a bestselling author who travels the country speaking to young audiences about the harmful impact of abortion, especially in minority communities. What better place than the University of St. Thomas -- an urban, Catholic campus -- for this dynamic African-American woman to bring her prolife message? For almost two months, St. Thomas' Students for Human Life organization looked forward to sponsoring Parker's planned appearance on campus April 21. Her fee was to be split by the St. Thomas Standard, a conservative student newspaper, and the Young America's Foundation, a Herndon, Va., group that brings conservative speakers and...
  • Catholic university to black, pro-life speaker: You’re not Welcomed!

Catholic university to black, pro-life speaker: You’re not Welcomed! …but we’ll make room for Al Franken and transgender speaker. Liberal administrators at the University of St. Thomas, a Catholic university and private college in Minnesota, censored the appearance of prominent pro-life and black speaker Star Parker. On April 21, 2008, Star—the best-selling author of numerous books—was slated to speak on campus about the devastating impact abortion has on minority communities. UST Vice President of Student Affairs Jane Canney nixed the idea entirely, citing “concerns” that the lecture was being underwritten by Young America’s Foundation. Katie Kieffer, a 2005 alumna of...

Hot Air TV: Sen. John Kerry confronted about Winter Soldier II By Michelle Malkin • March 12, 2008 11:12 PM Grab the popcorn. We’ve got another joint YAF/Hot Air TV production for you, just in time for the anti-war confab known as “Winter Soldier II” that kicks off in Washington, D.C. tomorrow and runs through Sunday. YAF’s Jason Mattera, our intrepid special correspondent who cornered Jack Murtha in September, is back in the halls of Congress. This week, Jason caught up with the original Winter Soldier, Sen. John Kerry, and confronted him about his unsubstantiated, troop-smearing testimony. Jason also tried...

Former Reagan Ranch Is Site of Annual Retreat for Politically Active Students SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -- Up the winding mountain road, Rachel Coolidge pressed her digital camera to the window of the van she shared with other young conservatives, snapping pictures of the rough countryside loved by her hero, Ronald Reagan. The van's radio blasted one of the many right-wing radio talk shows that have become the soundtrack of her 21-year-old life, and when she reached Rancho del Cielo, once Reagan's vacation retreat, Coolidge was almost giddy. "Ronald Reagan is a huge inspiration," she said, standing on the 688-acre homestead...
