A man has taken to an advice forum, asking for opinions after his sister made a rude remark to his wife on a recent visit.
Taking to the online forum, the man explained that while his sister is 30, she hasn’t had a ‘conventional adulthood’, with stints in and out of rehab. “She lives alone now and doesn’t have much of a social life,” he adds, which is important context for the story.
“Maybe she didn’t know that you don’t say that, ever” He explains, “My wife isn’t a heavy person by any means, but like many, many people, she isn’t quite as thin as she was when we first married, pre-child and all that. Totally normal and obviously I couldn’t care less.”

There are worse flubs the sister could have made. She sounds like she has zero social skills and needs more time around normal people.
Perhaps I’m in the minority, but I think a big part of this little incident was the guy’s compulsion to “call out” his sister’s behavior and text her and explain to her that she was out of line and that her social behavior ought to be better.
Is that really necessary?
We are adults. Adults don’t change. If she’s a jerk, she will stay a jerk. Being a male “Karen” and lecturing her about her apparent shortcomings is just a way for this guy to feel better about himself and how he “stands up for his wife”.
Seems like that both brother and sister are sort of jerks. Just roll with it, man. Let people be people. You don’t have to straighten out everyone you see.
I look pregnant and it doesn’t bother me when people that I look pregnant. If it bothered me, I’d do more about it than I do.
Maybe someone is trans pregnant.
That should be good for a lot of milage.
Or she knew exactly what she was doing.
People say stuff like that. It happened to me when I was younger. I found that saying, no, just fat! while smiling flustered people too much.
It is a bad thing to say because of the possibility of miscarriage or infertility, so I might mention that to someone like hi sister. But I wouldn’t tell them it was rude. I’d say something like “I have learned not to say stuff like that because of the possibility of ... “ instead of saying that it is a rude thing to say.
So she was socially awkward, but he was a bit of a jerk, imho.

Well, I don’t like when spouses won’t stick up for their spouse, and let their family go after the spouse.

I learned early on that you never congratulate a woman on her pregnancy unless she mentions it first. You may think that she is 9 months pregnant, but she could only be fat.
Just answer. “you’re right, I better switch to light beer. Oh and your dress makes you look heavy. I had one like it and threw it away. Then your bother decided he’d use it for a grease rag to change oil in his truck. How’s your mom?”
Ain’t no end to getting even. Just saying.
“What a lovely maternity dress…Oh! You’re not.”
Asked my grandmother about that and she said; Yes, women do that.
Reminds me of my friend, Jane, who has a bit of a tummy, I will admit. She told me one day she went into Starbucks and got a coffee and went out on the street and lit a cigarette, and was walking down the street drinking her coffee and smoking her cigarette and a woman came up to her and angrily chastised her for smoking and drinking coffee while pregnant. She thought it hilarious.
Yes, when men make such comments, they are often just jockeying for position but in joking way.
When women make such comments, it’s done with an eye of bringing them down.
She should have had a glass of wine.
I always ask fat females if they are pregnant or just fat. No harm if they’re pregnant. If they’re fat then it’s a wake up call to hit the gym and get a man. That way you can be fat and pregnant.
Wasn’t there a movie with the line “Are you pregnant or just fat?”
I think that was Kramer on an episode of Seinfeld.
Yes, the sister’s jealousy of the wife is showing.
