CAIRO (The Blaze/AP) — Would-be looters broke into Cairo’s famed Egyptian Museum, ripping the heads off two mummies and damaging about 10 small artifacts before being caught and detained by soldiers, Egypt’s antiquities chief said Saturday.

Zahi Hawass said the vandals did not manage to steal any of the museum’s antiquities, and that the prized collection was now safe and under military guard.

I wonder what percentage of Egypt’s economy is tourism driven? I would think that (excepting Israel) no country in the middle-east comes close to the tourism revenue that Egypt does. What happens if this uprising destabilizes that revenue stream for the long-term? Egypt does produce some energy, but not nearly enough to keep it afloat.

A lot of history will be lost or damaged before this is over. The brotherhood will be in control soon and will try to destroy all history that does not agree with theirs.

Desecrating historical and religious artifacts are done by terrorist looters. Such people should be shot on sight in the act of committing such crimes. A good part of Egypt finances come from tourism and trade. With such actions, the stability of the nation and their national eocnomy could collapse and throw the entire country into chaos which is probably what the terrorists and extremists hope to do.

Fools. Destroying their own treasures in the name of a false god. OTOH, it’s good to see that apparently Mr. Hawass is alive and well, and carrying on his mission.

Since Muhammad is the final prophet Islam hates all that came before Muhammad. Egypt has no oil so it had better protect its antiquities and tourism business. But remember when 60 European tourists were gunned down by the pyramids?

It’s not islam, so they don’t care. That’s why it stayed buried and forgotted so long. Had to be rediscovered by Western archaeologists who cared about the historical significance. Once it was shown to have interest and value, the locals suddenly “cared” again.

Desecrating antiquities has always been a critical step toward establishing social justice and improving the lot of the poor and downtrodden. < /sarc>

Bombs threaten Egypt tourism industry anew

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iXuYVn80_2s

INDEPTH: EGYPTIAN ATTACKS
Targeting civilians
CBC News Online | July 25, 2005

Since the early 1990s, there has been a string of attacks on civilians by suspected Islamic militants in Egypt. The country’s authorities have accused several groups of trying to destabilize the tourist industry, which is worth about $6 billion US a year to Egypt’s economy.

Authorities have also said most of the attacks are likely the work of people who want to overthrow the country’s secular government and replace it with an Islamic fundamentalist regime.

Kidnappers have taken 15 people in Egypt, including five Italian tourists, five Germans, one Romanian and their four Egyptian guides.

The group is thought to have been captured at a remote location near the Sudanese-Egyptian border south of Aswan while on a desert adventure last Friday in four jeeps across an area of the western desert famed for its prehistoric cave paintings.

The four Egyptians were identified as two safari company employees, the owner of the company and a security officer looking after group.

The Egyptian tourism minister, Zoheir Garana, said his department was negotiating with the kidnappers, who are thought to be desert tribesman demanding up to $6m (£3.25m) in ransom.

This is the best yet. So apparently the jews planted ‘Jaws’ to eat tourists in Egypt. Sounds like old ‘Baghdad Bob’ has a job now with the Egyptian tourism agency.

LOL.

Egypt: Sinai shark attacks could be Israeli plot
By ARIEH O’SULLIVAN / THE MEDIA LINE
06/12/2010

Israel rejects the notion as “too ludicrous” for comment; German woman killed near Sharm e-Sheikh, Russian tourists also mauled.

Egyptian officials say they have not ruled out the possibility that a fatal shark attack in Sinai on Sunday could have been a plot by the Mossad.

“What is being said about the Mossad throwing the deadly shark [in the sea] to hit tourism in Egypt is not out of the question, but it needs time to confirm,” South Sinai Gov.

Thieves have been destroying mummies and stealing their valuables for five thousand years. It’s regrettable, but not that important.

Despite all the killings European tourists are magnetically drawn to Egypt. Tourism is a huge money maker and all Egyptians in that industry are hospitable. Lets hope it remains that way. The more business there is the less chance the F#$*&%#% Muslim Brotherhood takes over
