Watching Movies On-Line? (vanity)

Posted on 03/02/2013 12:16:37 PM PST by Former Fetus

It seems like "everybody" is watching movies on-line for free, but YouTube does not have a very large selection even if you are willing to be watching part 1, part 2... To be specific, I would like to watch "The Shoes of the Fisherman" because all copies of the book are checked out at the local library. Does anybody have any suggestions? Are those sites where you register to watch movies safe? Thanks

I’ve got Foyle’s War on the watch list as soon as we finish Wood’s documentary on India. Thanks for the recommendation, we’ll try it tonight.

Thanks for that link. It looks like a winner. I ditched cable over a year ago. I’ve found enough to watch on Netflix that it’s worth the nominal cost. Netflix’s House of Cards was a good watch, and they have a number of Christian themed and inspirational movies. I looked at Hulu and was disgusted by what was offered/suggested - heavy sexual and homosexual content. I don’t want to see that stuff when I go to look for a movie. My husband does well with Youtube, but I rarely find anything there except links to pay sites.

You can watch Downton Abby Season 2 here for free:

Someone posted this site a few days ago, so I've planned a proper wallow in this series early this week.

Amazon has lost this customer. After seeing their new ad on tv - never again. The ad is for their Kindle. There’s a man and woman reading and the man asks the woman if he could buy her a drink. She declines saying her husband is bringing her one and the man says his “husband” is bringing him one, too. They turn and wave at their “husbands” and the “husbands” wave back.

I have used Netflix, and it’s safe as far as that goes...but the selection isn’t very good. They want to upgrade you to the DVD delivery service for the best selections. Which is OK up to a point...I used Magic DVD ripper to rip them to a network hard drive, so I had them on hand after returning the disk.

http://www.magicdvdripper.com/

Also check out videohelp.com. Lots of information there and links to FREE software to accomplish these very same tasks.

Also, no matter what software you use, ALWAYS use the best DVD blanks you can get. Cheap ones are cheap for a reason, and disappoint much more than cheap CD-Rs. I mail order Taiyo Yudens (8x), which you will not find on a retail shelf, but they hold up very well. Don't waste your time or your drives on junk blanks, and afterwards, store things properly.

Somebody help me or point me someplace.

I have an Imac, hi-speed DSL Wi-fi, an HD 42” TV, and an AT&T U-verse package of cell-phone, DSL, and TV channels & movies.

I am paying through the nose for my set-up, and my wife is locked in for another year because of her phone.

We only watch a few channels of the regular hourly stuff - Suits, Southland, history, H2, NCIS, NGC, etc.. The movie selections suck. We pay for hundreds of movie and special channels we never use. Some Hulu movies come with it but I don’t want to watch movies on my computer - I would like to see them on the TV.

What do I need to watch Hulu on the TV, and what can I do to cut back my U-verse bill and get more good movies? Also, If I get the box or whatever to watch Hulu and others on the TV, can I still use my computer for other things?

I’ve heard of all of this but never gotten a final plan on how to do it.

Thanks!!!

Anyone know where to get Season Two of Homeland? I missed a few epis cuz my DVR wasn’t set when I was on vacation.

Okay, okay. I know Claire Danes is the enemy..but the show is watchable.

I have Netflix. Some of these other sites sound good.

I don’t know if it will work for you but I got an HTMI cable that plugs my wife’s laptop to the TV. We watch movies from Amazon Prime all the time. Last week they even showed Skyfall for free.

I watched it all over two days hoping for a second season.

Try the British version.

“Daily Flix” and “letmewatchthis” are two free sites with no registration required.
Well organized so you can find what you want.

I’ve never had a problem with viruses or ‘whatever’.

http://free-classic-tv-shows.com/ great public domain site and has a sister movie site.

My DSL gets a little slow so I like to download things instead of streaming them.

I'm in the middle of watching a HD quality moving right now. Great picture. Have the internet plugged into my TV.

On searching, if you want a full length movie, use the search words "full length" and not other description. A list of full length movies and shows pops up in the search results.

If you feel like watching a documentary, type in "documentary" and you get a list.

I turned off my cable TV. Every show I like to watch on there is on Youtube and with the computer hooked to the TV I get them in big screen. For local TV I just grab the digital signal for free off the air.

Either my ad blocker or “Host Manager” blocks the HULU ads. While the ad is ‘running’ I just see a black screen. It’s a little weird.

Old TV shows: http://free-classic-tv-shows.com/. Very well organized.

Get a ROKU box. It costs $49 and you can watch hulu, crackle, amazon etc...

some are free, some are 7-8 per month. Much cheaper than cable.

You have figured out how to beat the system, you should repost that advice occasionally.

Anyone who wants to see how The Rifleman handled the issue of whether guns kill, or people kill, should search for the “Gun Shy” episode, where Mark’s friends accidentally shoots a boy while playing with Lucas’s rifle.

Go to your local Radio Shack and buy a Roku box (about $60) This allows you to connect your TV to your wireless Internet. Very easy to set up...just a cable from the box to your TV. Roku has some free channels that have old movies and TV shows, but for $8 a month get a Netflix subscription...unlimited movies streamed to your TV. Hulu-Plus much the same and Amazon allows some free movies or rentals. I have had this set up for several years and get more out of it than any premium cable movie channel.

A modern DVD player does that also.
