Interesting.

Lots if mashed stuff. Like the Chumash mashing acorns for food.

Grinding up stuff that would otherwise have to be chewed has been a commonplace for a long time. Parallel or prior to that, cooking until the fibers and whatnot broke down, and in the case of meat separated from the bone, was the common solution. This was made possible by the creation of tools for hunting and defense, and a settled life. That in turn led to agriculture, which became (and remains) the basis for all civilization. S’cool.

"Akkor said if a chef with a large, unmanaged beard or long, unmanaged hair cooks in the kitchen or an animal wandered into the kitchen, he or she used to receive a death penalty along with their family. The rule was valid for those who cooked without having a bath beforehand."

I guess they knew how to keep hippies from propagating back then...

Archaeological team prepares 4,000-year-old Hittite meals

Sounds like prepping didn't help the Hittites. ;)

I’ve eaten some Thanksgiving dinners that didn’t look too different from that — except there’s no turkey.

What your school served in the 50s was left over from my school in the 40s. But, we had the War for an excuse.

Prepares 4,000 year old meals! I call BS; not even MREs last that long.

Twinkies, maybe; but that’s not a meal.

With enough wine or beer, anything tastes good.

One has to wonder what archaeologists in the distant future will make of Twinkies whey they find thousands of them intact in various digs.

Happena (a casserole of meat, olive oil and honey)

Wish they included the recipes on some of these dishes.

I thought “C rations” were old in 1967 when we had those in ROTC.

I had beanie weinies from 1952 back in basic 79. I pulled a lot of midnight CQ in tech school and had one issued every night. BTW Ham and Muthers really sucked.
