A film history class in college, many years ago. There was a big fad for gangster movies in the early 30s-- "Little Caesar" with Edward G. Robinson, "The Public Enemy" with George Raft, "Scarface"-- and all were condemned by church and civic groups for glorifying gangsters and including excessive violence.
