Clyburn walks back impeachment comments

House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn on Monday walked back remarks suggesting that Democrats will impeach President Donald Trump, reversing course to say he’s “farther” from backing impeachment than most of his caucus.

Clyburn’s comments came after a private leadership meeting Monday evening in which Speaker Nancy Pelosi reiterated that she didn’t support launching impeachment proceedings right now despite a growing push within the caucus.

“I’m probably farther away from impeachment than anybody in our caucus,” Clyburn (D-S.C.) told reporters Monday night. “We will not get out in front of our committees. We’ll see what the committees come up with. I’ve said that forever.”

Asked by POLITICO whether he thought impeachment proceedings were inevitable, Clyburn simply said no. The No. 3 Democrat’s comments stand in contrast to what he said Sunday, suggesting it was only a matter of time before House Democrats began impeachment proceedings against Trump.

“That’s exactly what I feel, I think we’ve already begun it,” Clyburn told CNN’s Jake Tapper when asked whether House Democrats would try to remove the president from office.

I told my wife at dinner tonight, they can't impeach Trump.

It opens them all up to subpoenas from Trump lawyers leading straight back to Hillary. (hat tip to another Freeper's comments earlier today I can't seem to locate).

Well, low and behold.

Talk talk talk talk talk talk talk

“I can get all the talk I want over at The Monarch Boarding House.”

Let’s hear the charges against President Trump that will allow the Democrats to overturn an election.

These Democrats are just a bunch of chickens scratching in their own crap and clucking at each other.

Interesting point.

They’re not going to impeach him for a variety of reasons, but they are going to use the threat of doing so to try to smear him, cast a cloud over his ability to govern, and above all - first and foremost - to raise MONEY.

“only a matter of time before House Democrats began impeachment proceedings against Trump”

Why bother with proceedings? They have made their minds up long ago and can’t be deterred. Just have the vote already.

Which brings me to my next point.

How can you obstruct justice when there is no justice?

the House isn’t gonna impeach: it’s guaranteed to fail in the Senate, assuming the House Dems don’t completely fracture on the issue in the first place and fail to impeach

Plus:

The House isn’t gonna impeach because it’s guaranteed to fail in the Senate, assuming the House Dems don’t completely fracture on the issue in the first place and fail to impeach due to lack of Dem votes: it’d take only 20 Dems to vote against impeachment.

And if the House Dems don’t fracture, they’re pretty much guaranteed to lose the House, the Senate and the Presidency in 2020, and the Dem leaders know all of that, even if the moonbat branch of the party doesn’t

And if the Dem House DOES fracture, that pretty much destroys the Dem party too ... either way, the Dems lose bigly if they attempt impeachment, and the Dem elders know that ...

I think this is what you mentioned, posted by FReeper lonster earlier today.

This passed on by an old friend. Come on Trump haters, PUSH for impeachment “PLEASE”.

*****
Part 1:
I have a degree in Political Science, and I am a card-carrying Libertarian. I’ve been studying politics and political history for the past 30 years. My specialty is U.S. Presidents. That said, I hope that the House of Representatives impeaches Trump. Let me tell you what will happen next.

1. The House can pass articles of impeachment over the objections of the Republicans, and refer to the Senate for trial.

2. The Senate will conduct a trial. There will be a vote, and the Republicans will vote unanimously, along with a small number of Democrats, to not convict the President. Legally, it will all be over at that point.

3. However, during the trial, and this is what no one is thinking about right now, the President’s attorneys will have the right to subpoena and question ANYONE THAT THEY WANT. That is different that the special counsel investigation, which was very one-sided. So, during the impeachment trial, we will be hearing testimony from James Comey, Peter Strzok, Lisa Page, Bruce Ohr, Glenn Simpson, Donna Brazille, Eric Holder, Loretta Lynch, Christopher Steele, Hillary Clinton, John Brennan, James Clapper, and a whole host of other participants in this whole sordid affair and the ensuing coverup activities. A lot of dirt will be dug up; a lot of truth will be unveiled. Finger pointing will occur. Deals will start being made, and suddenly, a lot of democrats will start being charged and going to prison. All this, because, remember, the President’s team will now, for the first time, have the RIGHT to question all of these people under oath - and they will turn on each other. That’s already starting.

4. Lastly, one more thing will happen – the Senate will not convict the President. Nothing will happen to Trump. Most Americans are clueless about political processes, the law, and the Constitution. Most Americans believe that being impeached results in removal from office. They don’t understand that phase 2 is a trial in and by the Senate, where he has zero chance of conviction. Remember, the Senate is controlled by Republicans; they will determine what testimony is allowed — and **everything** will be allowed, including: DNC collusion with the Clinton campaign to fix the election in favor of Hillary, the creation of the Trump dossier, the cover up and destruction of emails that very likely included incriminating information. They’ll incriminate each other for lying to the FISA court, for spying and wiretapping the Trump campaign, and for colluding with foreign political actors, especially George Soros. After the Senate declines to convict the President, we will have an election, and Trump will win. It will be a backlash against democrat petulance, temper tantrums, hypocrisy and dishonesty. Even minorities will vote for Trump, because, for the first time, they will see that democrats have spent 2+ years focused on maintaining their own power, and not doing anything at all about black murders in Chicago, homelessness, opioids, and other important issues that are actually killing people. And, we will spend the following four years listening to politicians and pundits claim that the whole impeachment was rigged somehow.
