Just a few weeks ago the idea of peaceful riots would have seemed absurd, but the American media is nothing if not inventive these days.
Earlier this week, ABC News reported, Protesters in California set fire to a courthouse, damaged a police station and assaulted officers after a peaceful demonstration intensified. Legal scholar Eugene Volokh wonders how this terminology would work in the real world: You are being charged with an intensified peaceful demonstration, in the second degree. How do you plead?
Indeed, the medias commitment to tempering their descriptions of violent riots sweeping the nation as mostly peaceful is relentlessthat particular phrase has become a media cliché practically overnight.
Of course, Americas police officers could also be accurately described as mostly peaceful, but any journalist who dared to give cops the same generous benefit of the doubt would likely cause a riot in their own newsroom...

"Ultimately, members of the media have a choice to makeyou can be honest about the alarming evidence of law and order breaking down in American cities. Or you can continue to torch your credibility by downplaying the nightly violence for reasons that appear overtly partisan. "
Was this not posted this AM?
I didn’t see it when I did a title search, but I did see a few posts for articles that started with “Portland Riots.”
These are the people who told us ‘military intelligence’ was an oxymoron.
The Main Street Media became the Lame Street Media under Obama.
Leftist do non-violent violence.
Everybody knows that!
Except for a small few, Journalism is a myth, long been dead in this country.
Journalism is now propagandist.
Only evil would destroy reality.
Evil is destroying reality. That’s what is does. Creation was able to last forever, given to man, fallen, destruction began. USA is full of deep evil people.
YHVH (God) forgive us.
When I was 11 years old I actually worked for John Wayne Gacy. The media would now describe him as a “Mostly Nice Guy”.
Continue to torch?? It’s already burned to the ground.
I was a new construction contractor in Chicago at the exact same time as Gacy was doing the same thing. That story is very vivid and really to me/ amazing that you worked for him. Wonder how it was you survived while others did not. What exactly did you do? 11 is mighty young for a construction job.
This was to the best of my knowledge before he started murdering his victims. At the time he was married, lived in Waterloo Iowa, managed a Kentucky Fried Chicken and was named JayCee of the year. As a JayCee he was in charge of the Soap Box Derby and opened up a construction shop on weekends to help us “boys” build our Soap Box Derby cars. He taught me how to use a radial arm saw, and the expression “The mark of a good carpenter is he hides his mistakes well”.
His KFC was three houses down the block from where I grew up, and I worked for him after school picking up trash in the parking lot. He payed me a dollar a week cash which in the mid Sixties seemed like exorbitant pay for what I did.
I can say more, but I will stop here.
