Bill Gates says hydroxychloroquine has 'severe side effects,' but little evidence they're common

Bill Gates this week added more flame to the fire in the ongoing debate over the usage of hydroxychloroquine to treat COVID-19, claiming that using the drug to treat the coronavirus carries with it the risk of "severe side effects" and arguing that medical officials should instead pursue the numerous "good therapeutic drugs" currently in development.

Yet there is at present little evidence that "severe side effects" are common in COVID-19 patients who take hydroxychloroquine, with the majority of reported adverse events being relatively mild and only a small fraction of reported effects so far being dangerous and/or fatal.

The drug, which has been used for years to treat malaria and other conditions like lupus, has been at the center of a medical and political firestorm since March when President Trump touted the medicine as a possible effective treatment for coronavirus. Numerous medical officials have claimed that it offers no benefit to COVID-19 patients, while others have insisted that it is highly effective when used in certain circumstances, specifically on high-risk patients early in the course of the disease.

Asked by Bloomberg magazine about the controversy on Thursday, Gates—who has been at the forefront of funding and advocacy efforts to find both a cure and a vaccine for COVID-19—said that though we live "in age of science ... sometimes it doesn’t feel that way."...

This is available NOW and there are just too many testimonials from people who wrere very sick with COVID-19 and got better when this protocol was introduced - including elected officials who have no motivation in saying this except to help others. Vaccines are not here yet and even “successful” vaccines not only do not work on a substantial percentage of people, and make others sick, even killing some. This blocking of a long used drug is nothing other than being a criminal accessory to deaths that could have been avoided in a lot of cases.

Bill Gates is a liar. There are no severe side affects from taking hydroxychloroquine. It has been used safely by millions of patients for more than 50 years. Tens of thousands have been cured of Covid by this drug. Two major reasons for the ban against HCQ: 1. OMB/TDS - OM touted this early on as not a cure but a way to cut down on cases and length of cases as more as a preventative. Since OMB and TDS was in full effect before the pandemic and misinformation about the virus, all sorts of officials have become pseudo-scientists and pseudo=pharmacists to show that HCQ does not work. Although some of the densely populated countries (i.e. India) have shown otherwise. Trump acted early on as soon as possible based on the information that was given him. The demonrats are once again writing revisionist history to gain and capture power from the only man in Washington they cannot fully control. 2. HCQ was cheap and the big pharma knowing that Trump had reduced drug prices in the pipeline are deciding that this would be their last stand. The price of remdemisvir is more than quadruple the price of HCQ and probably higher than that. By pushing remdemisvir through the FDA, this also sets precedence for approving other drugs in a lightening speed fashion. The drug companies were hoping to push this through without the normal trials they are required to do. There is now a shortened period for these trials which in the long run mean unforseen ramifications in the future as most drugs are required to have a long term study done. 3. The Gates Foundation hs been in cahoots with China from the get go. Gates needed money for his foundation as it was losing money in his philanthropic endeavors. The Gates Foundation was recently awarded the contract to distribute Remdisvril and the vaccine. Gates does not have clean hands in this pandemic and the WHO organization covered up and waited far longer to declare this a pandemic. Gates was an early supporter of the WHO in this pandemic and has remained so throughout. Gates and China are in collaboration with one another. WHile it is speculation, the Gates Foundation might have had the information China was unable to share with the US and miraculously the Gates Foundation would come up with a cure. This didn't happen because of mutations.

Like any medication, like any drug, it’s not for everyone. Some people are going to have a bad reaction. But it should be fine for 99.9 percent. It’s been around since 1955; if it had such severe side effects, we would know that by now.

But Gates has Big Pharma investments, and one of his companies is working on a vaccine, so hydroxychloroquine is costing him money — and that is all that matters to him.
