Yes, there are too many, but they all bring a profit to those involved.

The sponsors make money, the teams make money (and bragging rights that they were in a bowl game), and the networks make money.

Plus, the teams get to travel to locations they may not normally go.

Until those involved stop making money from bowl games, we will continue to have a large number of them.

Alabama - Cincinnati could be ugly. Bu this is what Cincinnati wanted and earned.

I believe the Blue Bonnet Bowl too back in the day.

I also remember the Sun Bowl, the Liberty Bowl, and the Gator Bowl from back in the day. But the Big 4 were always the Cotton, Orange, Sugar, and Rose.

The Fenway Bowl? At Fenway Park? Not familiar with that one.

It is actually the Wasabi Fenway Bowl Game. New this year.
CBS is projecting

Boston College vs. Houston
Atlantic Coast Conference vs the American Athletic Conference

I predict that Amazon Prime is going to have a lot of games on their streaming service and they will probably outbid ESPN to get them.

A few weeks ago I came out with a proposed structure for college football. Basically the 130 teams would be spread amongst 11 divisions.

The playoffs would consist of 22 teams, the first and second place teams in each division, with the division winners going directly to the Round of 16.

The 11 second place finishers would play in the First Round, with a Play-In Game between the two lowest seeded second place teams. Then the week after, the 5 First Round games would determine the Final Five teams to go to the Round of 16.

So based on the records and current poll standings this is how it would have shaken out:

Division Winners (First Round Bye)

Oregon
Utah
Oklahoma State
Baylor
Georgia
Alabama
Wake Forest
Clemson
Notre Dame
Michigan
Iowa

Second Place Teams and Seedings

First Round Games with higher seed hosting the game.

1 Ohio State
Winner of 11 Washington State vs 10 Appalachian State

2 Ole Miss
9 Wisconsin

3 BYU
8 Texas A&M

4 Oklahoma
7 Kentucky

5 Pitt
6 NC State

Then the 16 teams would be seeded and the Round of Sixteen would be played at the higher seed’s stadium

Then the Round of Eight is Played New Years Day at the Traditional Bowl Games:

Orange
Sugar
Cotton/Fiesta/Peach
Rose

Then the next week the National Semifinals and the week after The Championship Game

Bama v. Michigan would be a more satisfying matchup since we’ve already seen who does what to whom when the Crimson Tide and the Bulldogs square off.

To be honest, I wouldn’t mind at all seeing Cincinnati take down Bama and then take on Michigan. A Midwest Melee.
