Hi, long-time lurker, first-time Freeper here.
Listening to the radio here in Chicago, I was hearing of stories that there is a great need for extra-large clothing sizes for the victims (XXL or larger). I recently lost a large amount of weight, and am no longer in need of my XXL shirts and 40-42 inch waist pants. I couldn't take down the information as I was driving, but I would like very much to send these items down to the affected area. It's not a whole lot of stuff I have left, but definitely enough to help someone out.
Does anyone know of any relief agencies or individuals that are accepting donations of clothing, or any place I can send these to? I spoke with a priest today after mass from Catholic Charities and his agency isn't directly accepting clothing, nor really could direct me anywhere to go.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Yep. They'll all be crawling out from under their rocks, now. Hindsight is always 20/20. And trolls are very good at placing blame.
I'm growing weary of my agency and my boss being bashed to cover the ineptitude of state and local authorities. Grrrr.
Yeah, no kidding. I got confused when I posted a response to the troll and then it came back to a thread posted by somebody totally different about something totally different. Then I couldn't find the thread anymore -- because the thread was about clothing donations and didn't have a damned thing to do with DHS. Don't you just hate hijacked threads?
Grrrr...
Nope, Metulj is in this thread.
He posted his copy paste Deparrtment of Homeland Security gambit here in post 7.
On Fox News, I saw volunteers sorting clothing at the relief center at Houston Astrodome. They desperately need clothing donations in what they politely called "plus-plus sizes," and they said to please mark the package "men's (or) women's clothing donation," along with the size to help them sort faster. I should think you can look up the zip code and just mail them to the Houston Astrodome. You might find more specific info at Red Cross online.
I'm getting tired of the trolls myself.
:-)
It still lives. Probably slunk back under a rock.
Yeah, post and run, then giggle as if they did something brave.
Metulj wouldn't know bravery if it saved their life and dragged them form gator infested water.
Well, the trolls just seem to think their opinions are the only ones that matter, and that they can change what they don't like by complaining about it. They don't last long. That's why we have FR...
Where am I, anyway? Just trying to help the man with a clothing donation and feel like I wandered into the cross-fire. At least I think I'm on your side as to sticking up for our government. Am sick of the carping that we couldn't be in NO within two hours while the mayor hid in his ivory tower.
I am fedexing my donations directly to the Houston Astrodome zip code 77230.
Indeed.
Government checks must be bigger than I thought.
Sorry about that.
Troll metulj made the error of posting his troll drek in a totally unrelated thread.
He most likely meant to hit another thread, but in his moronic haste to troll FR he hit this thread.
With luck, he'll be gone soon and this thread can continue on in peace.
;-)
It's pretty mild as far as cross-fires go. The troll fired once then fled.
Thanks for trying to help! I know the Red Cross is asking for money, but as I sit here I'm looking at a bag of clothes that I haven't gotten around to taking to Goodwill. Surely they would be of better use in Houston?
Actually the trolls are a good indicator. They show up in droves like this, "on message", when one of these stories are breaking badly against them. They try to muddy the waters like this one. I'm of a mind that it is an organized and sanctioned attack. They were even here for memogate. That all happened way too fast for those trolls to just be a few duers acting up. Blanco and Nagin are done. That's what all these trolls are telling me.
I concur.
I just wondered about their diet down there because this wasn't slightly overweight people...they were very very large.
This shouldn't be too hard.
1. Katrina was a storm. A natural disaster, and we have lines of command set up for such.
2. A terrorist attack would fall under Homeland Security's jurisdiction.
