This is the start of what is going to end up as a "natural" EMP event (or several) of catastrophic proportions. Think the power going off, and never coming back on again. The main grid transformers that would blow aren't even made in America any longer, and getting them from China is probably impossible after a planet-wide permanent black-out takes place.

We’re frickin’ DOOMED dude.

This’ll light up all the bazillions of gallons of oil floating around in the gulf!

I’m breakin’ out the reserve bottle of Jack for this.

Does this mean that I will have to put my computer into an unplugged microwave to protect it?

Unplugged microwaves make great Faraday cages.

I would think with increased solar activity, the global warming wackos are salivating.

I’ve got my EMP-proof vehicle: an old Ford F-250 4x4 pickup, with a spare ignition module wrapped up in foil. Do you all have one? Wouldn’t hurt to make preparations, and older vehicles are more fun to work on, anyway.

How come the government and this administration has failed, no, wait, that's self explanatory, has failed to tell the general public about this and made plans for this ?
Where is FEMA on this ?
Where is Obama's administration on this to protect the general public from a Solar EMP event ?

Aren’t these the same people that last year predicted sunspots would completely disappear forever by 2015?

We are definitely in the active part of the solar cycle, but during the recent month of April, half the days had 0 sunspots. In the month of May, about 12 days had 0 sunspots. More worried about fallout from Samson or a terrorist EMP at this point in time. At any rate, very little warming from this active sun. Still more cooling. We have had maybe 2 to 3 days of net warming. Just look at the Northern Hemisphere oceans. Lots of colder then normal surface water right now.

What they probably didn’t mention enough is that this is what they are guessing. And that their guesses so far have been pretty poor. And if the world is to be at risk, weeks before anything happens, the Sun would be covered with sunspots.

Which would give most people a lot of time to get ready. While granted, satellites would be affected, some of them can button up their shielding to make them more protected, others can be moved to different, safer orbits, aircraft can be temporarily grounded, etc.

At a personal level, sensitive electronic devices can be put in metal boxes or the equivalent, or just wrapped in aluminum foil. Unplugging appliances helps. Good old steel military ammo boxes work fine.

Much depends where you live. Homes built on rock are more susceptible than those on more sandy soil.

I’m guess I shouldn’t be so amazed that this is not a bigger news story. But really, why not? The MSM blows most things out of proportion and drives people into a panic. Now that we have a legitimate concern here, why aren’t people being told to prepare?

Yikes! Let’s hope the “compter models” are wrong again. But it would fit into the end times nightmare.

There, this should work for ya this time. :) It just reminded me of our conversation the other night. Pretty much dead on.
