Too Tubby for Tinsel Town

Is Christina Hendricks too fat? I don’t know. Does Baskin Robbins have too many flavors? Is Rudolph’s nose too shiny? Was Mother Theresa selfless? Are the fellas from the National Organization of Women too shrill and judgmental?

Well okay, the answer to that last one is “yes”, but any guy with a functional “Y” chromosome and an IQ higher than of the average Sponge Bob character would answer a resounding “NO” regarding the lovely Ms. Hendricks and the state of her figure. Ever since she appeared on the hit AMC show “Mad Men”, Christina has done for the male population as a whole what Viagra is supposed to do for men in the throes of a raging midlife crisis. Of course her curvaceous figure is a break from what has become the accepted norm, and that means that the media is going to push back against this curvy anomaly.

Last January Christina Hendricks showed up that the Golden Globe Awards in a ruffled dress from designer Christian Siriano. New York Times fashion blogger, Cathy Horyn, quoted a stylist who said regarding Christina that “You don’t put a big girl in a big dress. That’s rule number one.” By now most of us know that the terms like “Husky”, “Rubenesque”, and “Big Girl” are just code words for “fat ass”.

Okay. Now, I am wondering how she found a party gown that doesn’t show her belly or isn’t too tight around the bust. I am about the same size and it’s been a pain to find anything that fits right and doesn’t annoy me when it comes to a formal.

Find something that looks OK, but can be improved by a tailor. That's how the stars and fashionistas do it.

Sadly, I found the perfect one right off. Only, I only could zip it halfway on my own. Argh!!! I hate zippers!!!

Get the next size and have it tailored.

My wife gets hers done at the dry cleaners.

So, when are you going to tell me what’s supposed to be making me so bitterly jealous?

My best friend made the tailor suggestion this morning. Glad I am not the only woman who has this problem.

Well the film especially. I can see a publicity photo retouch, but they don’t do it when they film a TV show.

Besides, usually they hire actresses that look good on film.

Christine Hendricks naturally pours onto the screen like honey on my tongue. Sweet sweet sweet!

I have to admit that I have never seen “Mad Men,” so I haven’t seen Ms. Hendrick since she was on “Firefly.”

To put it bluntly, her character “YoSafBridge” was one of the sexiest women in the history of... history! And she was no waif!

Jewel Staite in Firefly, before she lost all the weight.

No kidding! I remember an interview with Joss about that, and the fact that he wanted Kaylee to be heavier than Jewel was when she auditioned for Firefly. He wanted her to look like a woman who really worked hard, and was a woman. The story was that for the movie Serenity, they didn't have time for her to gain the weight back, and besides, the crew of Serenity (the ship) was supposed to have fallen on hard times.

But I absolutely fell in love with Kaylee in the first episode of Firefly, and thought that she was absolutely gorgeous. And I remember wanting to deck Mal for his comments on Kaylee in "Shindig!" That was the first time I ever got worked up over an episode of a TV series!

Are you kidding? That was one of the funniest lines in the series! Besides, he bought her the dang dress anyway.

Not just funny, but hilarious. That show was one of the best written ever. But I felt that I needed to defend Kaylee's honor! As did the gentleman at the "Shindig!"
