The 'EU Must Remain Tough' on Emissions Trading
Der Spiegel ^ | 12/22/2011 | Kristen Allen, with wires

As of Jan. 1, 2012, all airlines that take off and land in Europe must purchase permits for the right to release carbon dioxide emissions. In a final ruling on the matter handed down on Wednesday, the European Court of Justice decided that including foreign airlines in the European Union emissions trading scheme (ETS) was permissible and that the new legislation did not infringe upon the sovereignty of other states and was compatible with international accords.

Though the decision from the EU's highest court was expected, some fear it may spark a trade war with international partners, such as the United States, China and Russia. The ruling, which came in response to an appeal by a group of US airlines, is vehemently opposed in Washington. US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton herself pressured the EU ahead of court proceedings, writing in a letter to officials that the US "will be compelled to take appropriate action" in the case of an unfavorable decision. …

Although German commentators on Thursday recognized the dangers of a looming trade war, they urged EU officials not to give in to pressure from abroad. …

The EU is counting on this money to bail themselves out. It Takes A Scam To Support Socialism.

The fraud that the EPA is using to shut down our power plants. Time for the charlatans to put up or shut up.

As Europeans risk their very civilization they cannot manage to give up their scams. What a sad state of affairs is Europe. And worse, it is the model our President uses to define our future.

I might be ok with this latest scam if the fee was based only on travel origination. That way, Europeans could tax themselves into oblivion for leaving their country but the rest of the world would not be so afflicted.

But they are forcing it on all travel into and out of their ports. That means, the price to do business with the EU will be going up.

How does this help their economy? Oh! That's right! It's not suppose to help their economy. It's suppose to hurt the worlds economy because of Man Made Global Warming. Now I get it.

Obama probably loves this and will go on vacation rather than impose sanctions on the EU. After all Hawaii beckons after Obama’s victory over Boehner.

No problem:

Simply tack on a "landing fee" for all planes from EU Countries in the exact, same amount as what they charge our airlines for this so-called, faux, Gore-Bull warming "tax."

Of course, the only drawback is that any time you get Big Gubmint involved in any such policy, they will necessarily need a huge bureaucracy to run said program and what the airlines end up getting reimbursed will probably be about 50 cents on the dollar.

Congress could get involved and write legislation which would impose a tariff of sorts and give the airlines a tax break commensurate with what the EU charges.

Regardless, we should not take this laying down as it is a phony, fraudulent effort to simply extort money to help bail out their failed, Socialist economies.

Amazing how the left can constantly be selective with its concern via “Climate Change”.

This just exposes this whole scam as the extortion it really is.

Was listening to an interview with Lord Monkton http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lord_Monckton last week.

He was strongly warning Americans about this very movement, to strengthen EU (and America) “carbon” nonsense.

His point was, it is a deceitful attempt to eliminate our freedom to vote.

The eco-left are worried we are onto them, and seek to use global laws enacted by treaty, so that they cannot be voted out of power.

He was quite insistent on the dishonest agenda about to be rolled out.

I think he mentioned the new buzz-word will be “the science is solid”.

It is to replace the former “the science is settled”.

Just as “climate change” replaced “global warming”.
