Spanish speaking parents. Oh joy.
Yipee! Another “natural born citizen”. Perhaps in 35 years she’ll be President. Hell, it seems anybody can.
Great Job Stephanie! You certainly came through for your mom and your new little sister. Good luck with your aspiration to be a part of the medical profession.
It’s no big deal that these people are immirants, but they have been here long enough that their daughter speak two languages and yet they still cannot speak English?
That just is not right.
Why haven’t they bothered to learn?
Because they don’t have to, we bend over backwards for them.
We put spanish on our telephones on our literature, and we don’t force them to speak the language of the country they live in.
Make English the official language, take away all of the spanish speaking phones and they will learn soon enough.
5th grade Daughter experienced early exposure to real life, now has baby sister. I am personally proud she could/would.
The rest is conjecture.
Some who don’t speak English are not here illegally. Others are. If you speak only a foreign language in the U.S. you are crippled.
Illegal immigration should not be tolerated, but nothing about that is stated here.
I know families who have been in the U.S. for generations who still speak German. Others like my mother, still speak “some” Swedish. There are German and Swedish communities that exist in Texas. Fact.
Children of immigrants often act as translators for the older members of the family. This is why we must teach in English at school. Typically, the adult immigrants only learn enough to get by; the children are bilingual; and, the grandchildren only speak English.
My mother told me that, when he oldest sister came home from school crying, because the children taunted her because she didn’t speak English, my grandfather said to the family (in Italian), from now on, we only speak English in this house. As much as he loved the culture of his country of birth, he loved this country and his children more.
Aw, look at the little darling. What a cute hat!
Even experienced mothers can be surprised at how quickly a baby is born. I’d have had my Kathleen in the emergency room lobby if a helpful staffer hadn’t turned up with a wheelchair, because I couldn’t walk any further!
Way to go Steph. Nice job.
