Divers discover 2,000-year-old Roman shipwreck that is so well preserved even the FOOD is intact
UK Daily Mail ^ | 8/9/12 | Mark Prigg

Posted on 08/09/2012 8:38:47 AM PDT by Kartographer

The ship, a navis oneraria, or merchant vessel, was located at a depth of about 200 feet after a remotely operated vehicle (ROV) was used to scour the seabed. A search for the shipwreck was launched after local fisherman revealed they kept finding pieces of pottery in their nets. The divers found the wreck so well preserved even the food, still sealed in over 200 pots, is intact.

Divers examine one of an estimated 200 pots found on a shipwreck off the coast of Italy. The pots are so well preserved food still remains inside them.

As a Prepper I am curious to see how much and of what is still edible.

This seems to overlap the prepper - Gods/graves/glyphs categories.

It might be full of Garum. Which is gross even if it was still “fresh”.

No "might" about it. From the article: "Initial tests have found pickled fish, which was often used to create a sauce called garum."

Mmmm, mmmmm, mmmmm. I'm thinking of going to Olive Garden for lunch and asking for their rotted fish gut sauce instead of tomato sauce.

I am.

I also read the Scripture:

A prudent man sees danger and takes refuge, but the simple keep going and suffer for it. NIV Proverbs 22:3

In the house of the wise are stores of choice food and oil, but a foolish man devours all he has. Proverbs 21:20

But if any provide not for his own, and especially for those of his own house, he has denied the faith, and is worse than an unbeliever. 1 Timothy 5:8

History has shown us all too well that men do not need God’s help to muck things up to a point were their fellows cry out for God to end it all and relieve them of their misery.

God didn't build the Ark he told Noah to. God didn't provide food during the great famine he warned Joseph to store food for it. God truly expects us to do our part, he helps those who help themselves.

Are you ready to help yourself and your family should bad times befall us?

Garum? Isn’t that the island that Congressman Hank Johnson was worried about tipping over? ;-)

” , he helps those who help themselves.”

Notoriously not from scripture but thumbs up on everything else ;-)

Have some Worcestershire sauce instead...that’s the direct descendant of garum (although it may have been reintroduced to northern Europe through contacts with India).

Great! It'd be awful to get ready for the Apocalypse and then get hit by a bus or something.

Now I ask you again; Are you ready to provide for yourself and your family should bad times befall us? Or are you worse than an unbeliever?

It would be a shame to profess your faith and yet in the end fail in your duties.

Garum sounds exactly like Vietnamese Nuoc Mam.
And don’t knock it unless you’ve actually tried it.
