"The Cosmic Tusk -- Abrupt climate change induced by comets and asteroids during human history... My name is George Howard. I have a young family and a growing company in Raleigh, North Carolina, USA. I also have a two-fold fascination: 1) Achieving environmental quality through the judiscious use of market-based government regulatory systems (about which I blog elsewhere). And, 2) All things related to the developing science of extraterrestrial impact induced rapid climate change during the Holocene and slightly before. About which I blog here. After graduating with a BA in Political Science in 1989 from the University of North Carolina, I did a six-year stint in Washington D.C. as a conservative policy staffer in the United States Senate."

Such atrocious spelling for a graduate of the flagship of the UNC system. I'm embarrassed for my state.

That aside, the Mayans were accomplished astronomers. That there might have been some object such as a comet or asteroid behind their long count calendar was the only possibility that gave me pause about the whole thing.

So, Mr. Howard may have a point, but we're less than two weeks out, such an object would be observable well before now, I should think.

I had a dream the other night that the global warming and cooling cycles are a function of the alignment of the earth’s magnetic core axis and the geographic axis of the earth’s crust. The dynamo effect creating the electromagnetic field and the related magnetosphere strength is greater when the axis are in greater opposition.

Right now, the magnetic north axis has accelerated its rate of travel across Canada toward Siberia. In this journey it is crossing near the geographic north pole creating a planetary axis alignment that decreases dynamo output and results in a decrease in our earth’s gravitational field and magnetosphere.

At the same time, the decrease in friction and resulting output of the dynamo created as the two axis align allows the earth to be vulnerable to solar energy ejections as the magnetosphere weakens. This creates an increase in fluctuation of climate on earth and is the reason the magnetic north pole or core axis wobbles on a daily basis, correlating to solar activity.

What I saw was a pattern of pole travel that looked like a Spirograph pattern around the geographic axis.

It was a long dream and what I shared barely scratches the surface of what I learned. I do not have a background in geophysics and found the whole vision fascinating.

The unusual event is that the earth’s axis alignment and weak magnetosphere is occurring at solar max when the sun is reversing its polarity.

Maybe I’m fussy but this author’s butchery of the language rivals the Mayan sacrificial practices. He may have a point or two but it’s painful reading.

Baillie discovers correlation between ice core chemistry spikes & Mayan Long Count...

Old Sarge discovers correlation between hemmorhoids & misspelled blogs about Mayan Long Count by a supposed grad student...

(HINT: both are pains in my arse...)

"I was challenged to come up with appropriate prose for the posted paper. But here goes."

Fail George. Can't spell, and you used an Aztec calendar stone graphic for discussion of the Mayan calendar. And, your "two-fold" fascinations are nothing but pyschobabble. Credibility: 0

As you may recall, I became a fan of Mike Baillie a few years ago after reading his book, Exodus To Arthur.

He recently lost a court battle in trying to claim that all his tree-ring data was his personal property.
