The deep roots of catastrophe

A University of Utah seismologist analyzed seismic waves that bombarded Earth's core, and believes he got a look at the earliest roots of Earth's most cataclysmic kind of volcanic eruption. But don't worry. He says it won't happen for perhaps 200 million years. "What we may be detecting is the start of one of these large eruptive events that - if it ever happens - could cause very massive destruction on Earth," says seismologist Michael Thorne, the study's principal author and an assistant professor of geology and geophysics at the University of Utah.

if it ever happens - could cause very massive destruction on Earth.. That's worse than somewhat massive destruction on Earth..

Thanks for the ping, looks like things are going to rock and roll in the Pacific for quite a while :)
They should be getting all the earthquake caused seismic wave data they want in that area right now.

You severely disappointed me with this post. I know your pings list deals quite often with scientific subject matter, but my immediate reaction to the title, The Deep Roots of Catastrophe, had me chomping at the bit in gleeful anticipation, comeuppance, that somehow Obama was about to be forcibly dispatched to the nether regions of the Kenyan hinterland sans his many multiple Medicare, Social Security cards. :-(

The earth needs a proctologist? Who knew???
Having experienced a similar situation on a personal level some years ago, I sympathize. However, after successful treatment of the piles, eruptions continued unabated and in fact, increased in frequency. That is to say, I was able to hit some high notes that were previously out of my range. :-)

Annnnd, I was pretty danged open-minded, since this is a volcano topic, and those lava-monkeys are a bunch of propeller-beanie losers. ;’) Present company excepted, of course.

LOL, now that you’ve brought it up, the image above could actually be construed to diagram such an aliment.
