Solar Cycle #24: On Track to be the Weakest in 100 Years

Some researchers predict that the following sunspot Cycle #25 may even be absent all together.

“If this trend continues, there will be almost no spots in Cycle 25,” Noted Matthew Penn of the National Solar Observatory, hinting that we may be on the edge of another Maunder Minimum.

It is very important to remember that we *think* there is a pattern with solar activity, but the Sun is under no obligation to do what we *think* it will do.

True, and it’s fuel is really close to being depleted anyway.

By this time next year it will have gone out completely.

Just what roll a pause in the solar cycle might play in the climate change debate remains to be seen. Perhaps, humanity is getting a brief (and lucky) reprieve, a chance to get serious about controlling our own destiny and doing something about anthropogenic climate-forcing. On a more ominous note, however, an extended cooling phase may give us reason to stall on preparing for the the inevitable, while giving ammunition to deniers, who like to site natural trends exclusively.

No bias there...

Saw that and noted that the author’s biography indicates that he is some kind of science teacher.

I feel sorry for his students.

In addition, the original author didn't even use correct English: "site" should be "cite"!

"Maunder Minimum" = mini ice age!

I need to buy another SUV to do my part to prevent this. (already own 2)

The Maunder Minimum was a period from 1645 to 1715 where almost no sunspots were seen. This span of time corresponded to a medieval period known as the Little Ice Age.

a 70 year pause should give the globull warmers plenty of time to prepare.

I’ll take your cited site and raise you a role for a roll.

“Just what roll a pause in the solar cycle might play in the climate change debate....”

Hmm, a roll in the hay? A yummy buttered roll?

The pattern is driven by the center of mass of the sun vs the center of mass of the solar system, which in turn is mostly driven by the orbits of Jupiter and (to a lesser extent) Saturn. Precession also comes into play.

The Russians have done great work in this area. The top ones predict a Little Ice Age. Think Mauder Minimum.

AGW or anthropomorphic climate change is an anti-science power grab. A sick joke that has cost us billions.

That said, we likely are in for a rough ride over the next couple of decades. Of course the Marxists will spin it to their benefit. Or rather try to. Things will get nasty enough that it won't matter.

The governmentS spent 30 years funding fake research for a Hoax called global warming. If this doesn’t show people that government is the threat and that government/socialism can never work then I don’t know what will.

I’ve had a lot of debates with democrats. and they all believe in global warming. I tell them it’s a hoax and they look at me like I have 2 heads. they really believe the evil news media. I tell them I’ll see you in 2 years when the world will start getting colder (solar cycle 24 ) . will these democrats realize that the gov and media has been lying to them for 30 years and then realize what else they’ve been lied to about?

ts actually going to get a lot colder in the next few years.

Google solar cycle 24 and solar cycle 25. we are in 24 now and it is a small one( we should start seeing the effects in a few years, extremely cold and long winters). already this spring was the coldest in memory

This means the Earth will start getting much colder in the next few years, as soon as next year. Already this was a long winter, cool spring, cool summer.

We must confront democrats and the media with this. “Why have you been lying to us?” there is no global warming!. I can't wait to see democrats’ faces when the world starts cooling! The media reporters will be caught in a lie “global warming” my ass.
