When did Free Republic posters turn on Ted Cruz?

Posted on 02/19/2016 6:03:16 PM PST by hardspunned

I've come to this site every day since Ted Cruz became a national political figure. Perhaps I'm just getting old with a failing memory but I can't recall any derogatory posts about Cruz until Donald Trump began his ad hominem attacks on him. I don't remember Freepers attacking him as he built a record in the senate.

Can someone direct me to the threads and posts by the Freepers who now hate Cruz that were made prior to September of last year?

Why hold your breath? The beauty of Trump is that he is focused on the immediate, pressing issues of our time: Immigration, Trade, and Terrorism. By supporting Trump on these issues paves the way for the conservative agenda to get enacted as well. But if we don’t control our borders and defeat Islamic terrorism, then the other issues don’t matter.

When Cruz supporters turned on those on FR that were supporting Trump.

That's been my observation as well.

I didn't even have to support Trump to be called an idiot, liar and a cultist simply because some are so filled with hate that their reading comprehension sees nothing but red.

I was slow to turn from Cruz to Trump. The long and short of it is over the past couple of months I think the following about Cruz:

1) I can't trust what he says to be what he really plans to do
2) he is unelectible nationally because he carries much baggage as "Elmer Gantry" that will be hung around his neck

And regarding Trump, I have come to think that:

1) only he has the independence from the Establishment
2) his hyperfocus on a few of the supremely important issues is what is necessary to prevent our Ship of State from Shipwreck

I liked him as Senator Cruz quite a bit up until he voted for cloture for TPA.
I haven’t liked Presidential candidate Cruz as much.

(I also think he is ineligible and so is Rubio)

Yes, I will hold my breath if he wins the nom. Been around long enough to know his past views. And yes, people can change (like Reagan) but not as recent as Trump. But he is better than Hillary and Bernie. God help us if either of them becomes president.

Did pro-Trump “newbies” come aboard to attack Cruz, call him a liar, etc.?

I don’t like Trump! I put Trump just a little higher than Clinton and Sanders.

I’ve been on free republic since the first Clinton days.

I still don’t know who I’m supporting. I don’t vote until June.

I don’t like all the Cruz bashing.

I actually think all the candidates except Trump are better than McCain. I think Romney was a better candidate than a lot of the current pack.

All the current candidates have flaws, so I’m not sure who I’ll support.

You been living under a rock? Trump supporters have bent over backwards to be complimentary of Ted Cruz. He was the second choice of the overwhelming majority of Trump supporters and many of us said we would vote for CRuz if somehow Trump was out.

CRuz supporters, however did not reciprocate. Day in and day out they posted hit pieces on Trump. But they didn’t stop there. They insulted us all day long too, saying we were fools, and dumb, and uneducated. It was relentless.

They turned many of us off their guy. I myself posted once that CRuz deserved better supporters than these FR supporters. It’s just hard to keep extending an olive branch and have it yanked away and used to whack us in the face!

At this point the only thing that matters to me is that on the night of November 8, or in the early hours of the 9th I don’t have to watch the orgasmic MSM announcing that Shrillary, Comrade Sanders, Uncle Joe or Fauxahontas has been elected the 45th President of the United States. As riled up as we all are right now imagine the horror if one of those four is our next president.

I expect to vote for Cruz in TX on March 1 if he is still in the race. I seem him as unable to be nominated or elected thereafter.

dirty campaign tricks and dirty, lying campaign ads is what change my mind about Cruz. The first issue was the secret, undeclared bridge loan his wife, who's a managing partner at Goldman Sachs, obtained for him early in his Texas Senate campaign, where said loan was not declared on the Federal FEC campaign financial disclosure forms while at the same time Cruz was railing against the "big banks".

Then there was shameful piece of nastiness in IOWA:

Then Cruz nukes Carson by lying that Carson had withdrawn from the race.

And then come to find out that Cruz PACs get more money from Wall Street than Hillary or any GOP candidate except Bush:

http://finance.yahoo.com/news/these-are-wall-street-s-new-favorite-candidates-183653260.html

And now we see 24 hour attack ads by Cruz instead of Cruz touting his own virtues.

In other words, you add this all up, and Saint Cruz is just another slimy politician, albeit one piously claiming he's really a good guy and a champion of the people.
