Just a reminder that .1 lunar distance is about 24,000 miles above the Earth’s surface. Close but no cigar. Then again, maybe what soldiers used to say about incoming artillery fire could also apply to meteors and asteroids. You won’t hear (see) the one that will get you.

Purdue - Impact Earth! calculator

It is complex due to all the variables - Mass, Velocity, Angle, Impact site density, etc.

Interesting to play around with.

The meteor which flew past Chelyabinsk three years ago was estimated to be 20m in diameter and moving 40 to 43 thousand miles per hour. It exploded at an altitude of 18.4 miles with an energy release estimated at 500 kt of TNT. Watch.
