Rare Close Encounter of Venus & Jupiter Tonight Won't Happen Again Until 2065

Tonight (Aug. 27), look toward the western horizon to see a rare celestial event and a parade of planets — no telescope required.

Just above the horizon, Venus and Jupiter will appear so close to each other that, from some locations, the two planets will almost seem to touch. The next time Venus and Jupiter will get this close will be in November 2065.

In addition to keeping a look out for this planetary conjunction, look higher up in the sky to see three other planets on parade: Saturn, Mercury and Mars.

I heard next month the earth is going to get close to uranus.

That might be really painful. :)

Someone completely immature and infantile had to make that terrible joke and I was just the man for the job!!

I’m hoping it clears up here by tonight! Rainy, gray day here in ‘Sconny.

My wife reads these celestial news stories then I find myself out at 3 am standing with her in the field looking at what usually ends up being a disappointing meteor shower, moon that doesn’t look red (to me) or clouds that block what we’re supposed to see.

I’m sure sometime today when she sees my enthusiasm waffling I’ll get the line..... You’ll be 115 years old when this happens again.
She’s pretty good at math I’ll give to her.

Really I think she’s looking for something else out there in the field but the plow doesn’t work as well as it used to.

Peace will guide the planets, and love will rule the stars.

I’ll catch it next time around.

My FRiend, this sounds like one of the most romantic things EVER to me, and I am a guy! These moments are to be cherished.

.... look higher up in the sky to see three other planets on parade: Saturn, Mercury and Mars.

So this conjunction will be below Mercury?.

That is low.

Hmmm, Mercury is pretty hard to see, only at dawn or dusk, when its orbit is above the Sun, and the Sun is obscured by the horizon,

Sunset in CNY is 7:46 tonight and the forecast is for clear skies.

Almost unheard of when some wonderful celestial event is happening.

Funny...it just dawned on me that my youngest will be around to see this again in 2065.

Mind blowing, eh?
